Character history: Tidus wasn’t always Tidus. When he was born, he was given the name Shuyin and he had a good life. He had lots of friends, a band, the spot of team captain for the Zanarkand Abes, a loving mother, his father was a famous sports legend, and he also had beautiful girlfriend named Lenne. She was the songstress and voice of the band, Shuyin was her keyboardist. Everyone thought they’d be married some day, even Shuyin and Lenne strongly believed this. Unfortunately, that was all bound to change. When he was eighteen, Shuyin’s father witnessed a murder involving a crime family. So after testifying, he and his family were put into protective custody and moved out of Zanarkand. Shuyin had to leave almost everything behind, his friends, his Blitzball team, his band, his home, Zanarkand, his name, and worse of all… he had to leave Lenne behind.
So Shuyin became Tidus, which was apparently the name of some kid from another world that he would probably never see or have anything to do with in his life. He gained much resentment for his father, who was now called Jecht. Tidus blamed him for losing everything that he held dear in his life. The only thing that Tidus didn’t have to give up was his only other love besides Lenne, the ocean. They had been moved to Luca thousands of miles from Zanarkand and his old life. He never played keyboard again, but he did join a new Blitzball team. After two years, life was starting to come together again until the letter came.
One seemingly normal day, Tidus received a letter from the agency they were in protective custody under. He had asked them to keep him informed of anything important from his old life, just so he could know. With the paper in his hand, he wished he hadn’t made that request. The crime family they were hiding from was still looking for Jecht and his family. They had found their way to Shuyin’s old band and more importantly to Lenne. They killed her when she didn’t have any information for them. After reading that his beloved was dead at nineteen, Tidus ran from the apartment and out to the Mi’hen Highroad. It was a quiet place away from most things and he could be alone.
The sun was setting when Tidus finally returned home. As if the day couldn’t get any worse, he arrived to the sight of the door busted down and agency members waiting for him. They seemed relieved that he was still safe. He didn’t understand why they were so relieved; that’s when they told him. Their family had been found; the date between Lenne’s death and now was almost two weeks. Tidus saw his parents’ dead bodies and rushed to them in tears. He practically screamed his apologies to his father for hating and rarely speaking to him for the past years.
After being given time to grieve, the agency quickly gathered Tidus up and took him out of Spira, to an entirely other world. He would attend college in a place called Twilight Town, he was assured there was an ocean and after reading through the program guide he found that if he studied Marine Biology he’d be able to work with marine life for a career. At least there was one factor in his life that he could never lose… his beloved ocean.
Character Personality: When he was still Shuyin, he was always happy and smiling; he loved life and everything it had to offer. Nothing made him happier than to just sit at his keyboard and working out a new song, listen to Lenne’s new lyrics, take a swim in the ocean, or play a big match in Blitz ball. Nothing really fazed him; always thinking he was blessed and in heaven, he rarely had a reason to be sad.
When it came to becoming Tidus, parts of his personality started to change. He started to become very insightful and a deep thinker. He even caught himself doing the occasional mental narrative of the situation. Blitzball was his only distraction; he invented a slew of new moves that channeled all the aggression he felt. He couldn’t even look at his keyboard without thinking of Lenne and breaking down into tears. He and his father grew distant because of the anger and resentment Tidus began to feel towards him. He couldn’t see how his father had done the right thing in testifying, he just kept thinking: “Why couldn’t he have just minded his own business?”
All of Shuyin hadn’t been lost at least. Tidus could still let himself go and just have fun. He could laugh and smile and enjoy things around him. It took a while for Tidus and Shuyin to find a happy medium within the blonde’s mind.
He’s sometimes visited in his dreams (nightmares) by his former self. Shuyin would scold and berate Tidus for all the short comings he now possessed and how Lenne’s death was his fault because he hadn’t been there to protect her.
Physical description: Tidus is about 5’7 with short spiky bleach-blonde hair, blue eyes, and a constant golden tan. On usual days, he wears normal clothes like jeans, t-shirt, sneakers, etc. He has a bit of a skater boy style to him. However, when he feels like it, he’ll wear his old Zanarkand Abes Blitzball uniform just for the sake of nostalgia. Said uniform includes a cropped, hooded, short sleeved yellow jacket, the right arm includes a blue sleeve and attach to that is a metal arm and hand guard. It also has black overall type pants where one leg goes past his knee and the other ends midway down his thigh, and yellow boots. The only common thing between any of his outfit choices is the necklace he got from his mother as a gift for making it into the Abes. He has the same symbol on the necklace tattooed on his left calf.

Roleplay Samples
Third-person sample: It was a long trip from Spira to this new world he was being taken to. What was it called again? Oh right, Twilight Town or something like that. It didn’t really matter any more where he was or how far he was from his old home. There was nothing left for Tidus to cling to. The shining star of his old life had been stubbed out in her prime. Most of his life as Shuyin was gone, at least Spira would no longer be surrounding him as a reminder.
The blonde tried to sleep on the airship, the flight was almost an entire day so he tried to sleep thought most of it. Unfortunately he kept getting woken up by the same dream every hour or so; he was lucky to get two hours of sleep strung together. When he couldn’t sleep he decided to fiddle with the new toys the agency had gifted him with. A new cell phone with their contact numbers already programmed into it for emergencies. They’d given him a DS and games to occupy himself with as well as a laptop that seemed to be a requirement for students at the university to have their own of.
Tidus hoped that he’d find some friends and happiness in his new home. He’d get a new job, maybe new friends, some bit of happiness, hopefully even somewhere to kick around a Blitzball. It was time to move on. It was time to smile even though he was aching on the inside. Lenne would’ve wanted him to smile, she did always nag him whenever there was a frown on his face. “I’ll try. For you my dearest, I’ll try.”
First-person sample: I keep having this same dream over and over again. Perhaps I should really consider it a nightmare.
I’m trying to awaken a terrible beast and she appears to stop me. She’s in her stage outfit and she looks as beautiful as ever. I hurry down to join her and we are faced with soldiers. Without hesitation we are shot. I try to reach for her, but she’s too far and I’m too weak.
When all goes black I hear his voice. “It’s your fault she’s dead. You couldn’t protect her. She’s not even yours. She is mine.”
That idiot… there’s no difference between him and I.
