Today is Bagginsday.
More than Baginsday, its Lily Baby's first Bagginsday.

Being her first Bagginsday, we had to have a bit of a sit down explanation. As parents, we couldnt have our baby mindlessly setting out to parts unknown without knowing the reason why or for. Besides- she hasn't really been anywhere, so anywhere that is not Mary's womb, the Hospital, her swing, or any of the various baby beds we have set about the house would qualify as somewhere new. If all she knew was that she had to go somewhere she had never been before, and she were mobile, say- perhaps wearing baby rollerskates, and were positioned on the top of a a hill, or had come across one of my credit cards and ordered an ACME rocket pack, well, she could forge ahead for quite some time.

As you can see, this simply would not do. As novice, but getting the hang of it, parents we decided to give her some background and let her know the reason for the season, so to speak.

First off, a bit of flavor text:

"In a hole in the ground there lived a hobbit. Not a nasty, dirty, wet hole, filled with the ends of worms and an oozy smell, nor yet a dry, bare, sandy hole with nothing in it to sit down on or to eat: it was a hobbit-hole and that means comfort."

At this, my dear sweet baby girl smiled at me.

and that led to:
"I suppose hobbits need some description nowadays, since they have become rare and shy of the Big People, as they call us. They are (or were) a little people, about half our height, and smaller than the bearded Dwarves. Hobbits have no beards. There is little or no magic about them, except the ordinary everyday sort which allows them to disappear quietly and quickly when large stupid folk like you and me come blundering along, making a noise like elephants which they can hear a mile off. They are inclined to be fat in the stomach; they dress in bright colours (chiefly green and yellow); wear no shoes, because their feet grow naturally leathery soles and thick warm brown hair like the stuff on their heads (which is curly); have long clever brown fingers, good-natured faces, and laugh deep fruity laughs (especially after dinner, which they have twice a day when they can get it). Now you know enough to go on with."

Then- my litle angel looked up at me... and drooled.
Much like her mother did after I took her to watch the movies.

Obviously a bit more backstory was necessary, or at very least, she was unable to stop me as I explained that Bagginsday was the celebration of the birthday of two hobbits in particualar, and in honor of the grand adventures they both had in their time, we shall now have an aventure of our own.

For a year now we have noticed that the Corner Cafe had a full parking lot any time we drove past, so tonight was the perfect time to find out why.
Turns out, Its busy for a reason. Tasty, and covered in Gravy.

Glad we went, and we were also happy that we went out to eat with the tiny human and we all handled ourselves admirably.

So baby;s first Bagginsday. In 2012, when the Ring of Doom is no longer a choking hazard, the scale of our adventures, shall grow, but for now, we aere delighted ti simply go out for dinner as a family.

ON an unrelated note, when she is fussy, I change the channel to the Tropicales music station and we dance our cares away. Baby can Salsa.
