Dinner and a Show

Well, though my New Year's itself was so so, I've been having a decent start of the actual new year.

Just this past Saturday I went to the Sunset Strip House of Blues for the first time. I like being able to go out once in a while. Got all dressed up and went with Josh and June to see the band Afterward. My good friend James is their drummer. They put on a fun show.

I had a hearty laugh at the bands before them. Oy vey. I can't believe just anyone can play a place like that.. It's like they didn't even audition 2 or 3 of the acts. The first group we got there to see was Wood. Talk about your stereotype wannabe biker metal band man. I was amused by their drummer, as he was twirling and throwing his sticks at every opportunity, but that's about it. Too fuckin loud and no clue how to sing (you know-like with actual notes and such). I can't remember the second band's name. Something like Mosley maybe. Ever heard of Linkin' Park? These guys surely have. That in itself would've been tolerable if the frontman new how to string two notes together. How can you be in a band like that if you don't have a clue about harmony? Totally tone-deaf. The band after Afterward went on was My Evolution. I have to give them credit as the band with the best stage presence. They really grew on me. Unfortunately the sound was up too high and I couldn't hear everything they were doing. But they sure looked good (stripper-dancers, interpretive dancer-guys with masks, confetti, etc..). They ran over their time limit and got shut down mid-show.

So I'd say Afterward was the most together, professional, and talented of the bands up there that night. Good for them, they certainly work hard enough for it. That doesn't stop me from cracking up about the new 'image' they've decided to take on (kinda britpop meets retro something or other). Ah the things one does to make it to the top ;).
