I haven't updated this gay-ass blog in a long time, probably because I don't think my life is terribly interesting. Since I last wrote in here I got a better job where I make more money, have good hours and actually have weekends off like the rest of the working world.

I've always been the kind of person who really needs his friends but lately I've been onto a new train of thought. I don't actually need them and I've become a lot more self-reliant when it comes to personal issues. I'm better able to work things out on my own. I don't need friends, however I do want them and in my opinion that is much better and healthier. I've always said that it is much better to be wanted than needed, to need is so impersonal. Hell, I need water and oxygen but that doesn't mean I feel anything for them really. I've just spent the better part of my morning stacking firewood in the 90 degree heat (better stock up now since heating oil will be obscenely expensive this winter) so you'll have to excuse me if I can't put it any more eloquently than that right now.

Last Saturday a coworker and I went to see Stone Temple Pilots in Holmdel, NJ. Sadly we were up in the lawn ($75 apiece for lawn tickets and $200 for front row? You've got to be fucking kidding me.) where we had a lovely view of the back of everyone's heads. If not for the large monitors on stage I wouldn't have been able to see very much at all. When we arrived Ashes Divide was in the middle of their set and I immediately recognized Billy Howerdel from A Perfect Circle on vocals and lead guitar and even if I hadn't seen him his guitar work is unmistakable. "Ahh this could be good!" I thought to myself. They were fantastic, very moody and melodic which is pretty much what one would expect from Billy. I ended up picking up their CD the next day and it was worth every penny. Filter was also opening and they played a great set, lots of energy and Richard Patrick's vocals were spot-on. He verbally abused the hell out of everyone in front of the amphitheater and rightfully so, you'd think these assholes were glued to their seats. I know they hadn't necessarily come to see Filter but they put on a hell of a show and I thought it was terribly rude to just sit there like that. He did acknowledge everyone up in the lawn where we were pretty much rocking out like were actually at a fucking rock concert unlike the rich pricks who paid a shitload of cash to be up front. I don't know why they charged so much at this particular venue considering that it's usually like $50-$70 for front row and $30 for lawn everywhere else. I guess being relatively close to New York City might have something to do with it.

Filter finished their set and that's where everything pretty much went downhill. Opie and Anthony took the stage (to a tremendous din of boos, I guess these were Stern fans) to reassure us that we were mere minutes away from seeing Stone Temple Pilots. Minutes ended up being over an hour and a half. People were getting antsy and I myself joined in the chants of "Bullshit" and booing. My biggest regret was that the stage was much too far for my bottle to reach it. Finally after waiting over and hour STP took the stage and man, they sounded like absolute shit. Scott Weiland was obviously out of his head, either totally drunk or high on something. He was slow, incoherent and sang every song with the same monotonous tone while fucking up the lyrics and generally throwing the rest of the band off. It was like he forgot how to sing his own songs, his own fans were laughing at him. He did stop to talk but it was mostly incomprehensible, something about how he met a girl and he began to apologize when Rob Deleo, looking very embarrassed, cut him off. We left, completely disgusted, after about five songs. This guy does not need to be on tour right now, he needs a lot of help.
