National Poetry Slam '06
It's in Austin this year at many participating venues starting tomorrow. 75 teams from all over the world (one of my favorites is the Paris team) have descended upon Austin to rock it to its core. If you've never seen a poetry slam before, it's one of the most audience-engaging events that you will ever have the possibility of seeing. If you think you hate poetry slam, just three minutes with Pilot Le Hot or any of these other amazing poets will be enough to change your mind. Wednesday and Thursday night bouts (7pm and 9pm each night) are free to anyone wanting to attend, while the Friday night team semi-finals, Friday's Indy finals and Saturday's team finals are all available to attend at a minimal cost.
It's like nothing you've ever seen before and a million times better than any bullshit coffeehouse open mike.
