You know very little of the community in which you speak, if that's how you feel about it.
Most everyone has/is paid/paying their dues.
You haven't been around very long and soon you'll be leaving again, so I really think you don't have that great of a grasp on the people here and their work.

Performing IS a job. Sometimes people get paid to do it and sometimes not. Of course we all hope to be paid someday, but right now most do it because they love and like the experience their getting. It can be tiring to do several shows in a row or to be pulled into doing tech after a long day. I can't think of very many people who don't take their performing jobs in the AIC seriously. Most of the people I know work several hours a week on various rehearsals and prepare to their utmost ability for a show. That's a job. Sometimes it's totally awesome and rocks, and other times it can be unfulfilling and tiring. Most improvisers who perform frequently go through these feelings. You can ask just about any member of an established troupe.

Tons of people don't mind payin their dues for the community they are such a part of, but everyone is allowed to complain or feel tired from time to time. I don't think it counts a "spoiled" or "childish" if a person/people feel a certain way. There are a lot of pleasurable things about the austin improv community and we're very fortunate. But I also think people do a lot to ensure they pay the Hideout back. You weren't here for our last clean-up day. You haven't been around at the fundrasiers or for the days of passing out flyers or stapling them around town, the various committee and AIC meetings, the rebranding and reassigning of shows. Everyone wants to put on quality shows at affordable prices. And there is still so much to be done...and several things planned for the future. Only Andy and the current house manager get paid a wage. Most of the other money handed out gets put back into the community in some way or another.

Anyway. I think it's a bit forward of you to say all of those things about the community while you're still employed by the AIC. Personally, it just shows me you don't know very much about the people you work for.

the key thing is, I DO know this community very well, and I love the community in a lot of ways, but I also see where Xaq is coming from. It's all about being open-minded. We should ALL be working on that.
