The soldier is at an elevated observation post. Below and far to the right of him is some kind of boat. The boat has a mounted machine gun, which faces in the general direction of the observation post. Around the boat is a loose jungle that he can see through. Enemies begin appearing out of nowhere. They attempt to storm the boat and approach the machine gun. He guns them down with three-bullet bursts of fire. Another enemy runs through the loose jungle toward a shore that borders it on one side. The soldier sees him briefly only as a ghostly thermal image and as he guns him down, he can see the thermal fall. He shoots him again for good measure. Knowing that he had just destroyed several Vietnamese enemy, he descends from his post to meet a Vietnamese Communist commanding officer who approaches from the direction of a dock. The man is wearing a light blue, vaguely camo uniform with flat red epaulets. He informs the soldier that an exercise is in progress with "our allies" and that he is about to be charged with murder for killing several of the participants.
