Movie Review - Doom

Doom: I was expecting at least one of the following: Well-spirited jabs at the video game (powerups lying around, arbitrary rooms filled with demons, circle-strafing with fancy footwork) and all-out fantasy (which is what Doom really is, despite its future Mars setting) with demons, magic portals, Hell and all that. The on-screen reality was an awful action movie with quick-cut fight scenes obscured by shadows never reaching "over-the-top" levels, a lot of boring hallways (at least in Doom, the game, those boring hallways were filled with monsters and dead marines), awful science, and no Hell. In fact, their approach to the science is an example of the movies biggest flaw: Where they could have gone entirely serious or ridiculous, they just went half-assed. I mean, adding an extra chromosome leads to my Auntie Kathy, not super-humans, "demons" (genetic mutations, really) and zombies.

Let me repeat: No Hell. Wasn't that the entire point of the Doom franchise? Anyone looking for Aliens meets Hellraiser backed up by Iron Maiden will be sorely disappointed.
