Reviews: Hitchhiker's Guide, Love Hina

The Hitchhikers' Guide to the Galaxy (Film): Mostly funny with a great combination of high- and low-tech effects. I appreciate that it wasn't slavishly identical to the source material (how could it with the source being a radio play, BBC series, novel, interactive fiction game, and more). I only had two problems. First, for a movie that doesn't advertise itself as "first in a series", be prepared to find no closure with the Humma Kavula plot diversion (so much so, that it seems overly tangential even granting The Hitchhiker's style.). Second, the movie needed about thirty more minutes to make some of the jokes even more absurd and to give us some more time watching the Hitchhiker's Guide itself.

Love Hina, Volume 1 (TV Series): I'm told this is the prototypical romantic Anime comedy. It's cute, with a solid cast of memorable characters (more than I can say for some other series my nieces and nephews have foisted on me). Though I would like to see a romantic Anime comedy that's not "every girl has a crush on the main guy".
