a return to simplicity

Summer is a nice time. Not because of the sunshine, or because of good weather, but just because you have more time to be. And not to be anything in particular either. With school 24/7 it’s easy to forget that there is something other than y=mx+b, that there is something besides getting that A on the physics final. This may sound silly, but pretend for a moment you are a caveman(woman). You have finished your days work of either hunting, carving, or whatever else they did back then. Now you have time, you don’t have any homework or much responsibility. What do you do? no internet, no tv, no radio. Perhaps you make a cave painting, perhaps you pick up some sticks and make music yourself, or perhaps you lie down in front of your cave sweet cave and look up at the stars. The sky is much clearer, because there aren’t many tall, lighted buildings, or much pollution. The sky is very mysterious. Maybe you stay up all night with a friend talking about what the constellations look like or making up stories about gods in the stars. (yea I know cave men couldn’t speak, but this was at a time when language had just popped into existence.)
I think that the summer is a wonderful time to return to simple pleasures like these. For me it is a time to step back from my school mindset, look up at the night sky painted stars, and realize that wow I’m alive. I’m alive in this universe and it feels great. I’m alive in this universe and there is an infinity of everything going on right now. With those thoughts, from where I’m standing, the chaotic universe is serene.
