I'm delighted our government and our President made progress on healthcare reform this week. Not a perfect plan (especially ticked at those patriarchal old Dems who demanded any abortion coverage come out -- not their call! division of church and state, old dudes!), but a beginning they can build on.
Shame on the Republicans for NOT A SINGLE one voting his/her conscience. They can't all be so hideously misguided as to wish the current state of millions not having health coverage, surely? Surely??
Shame on the media who picked up words from FauxNews that "Americans don't want this bill." Tens of thousands marched in Washington to show they did. Another million or more have been demonstrating in their home states to show support. And to the Teabaggers and rapid conservative media and commentators: my schadenfreude looks good on me!
Got mad enough last night at KVUE TV to write them an email. Their coverage of this historic bill? Their cameras followed a nicely dressed white man as he went to his family doctor in Austin. He held up his hand; he'd cut his finger poor boy. No stitches, just ointment and a bandaid. But the newscaster intoned words about how this guy has had the same family doctor for 11 years (lucky man! medical coverage, something 30 million Americans don't have, disproportionately women and people of color) and he wonders how hard it will be to see his doctor now that those 30 million people will be seeking family healthcare. Like, he might have to wait a few days for treatment of the next boo-boo on his finger! Meanwhile, people have been dying and in agony from no medical coverage in this country!
And the doctor, whining that he likes a small staff (he keeps more $$$ that way) and having to take on more patients (I do not believe you can be forced to take on patients because we DO NOT HAVE A PUBLIC OPTION and if we did, Dr. Whiny, you could choose not to be in the program) will make his filing too complicated.
OMG. OMZG. It seemed like black humor, a surreal societal lampoon. But no, they thought it was journalism.
