Ito Jiro watched the blood ooze out of his ring finger; the blood slowly flowed from his dirty finger, and down his palm, before making its way down to his wrist. Mindlessly Jiro closed his hand, feeling the blood mix with the grease and dirt on his palm.

“Hey,”

Jiro glanced up to find his boss standing before him. “Did you cut yourself, Jiro-kun?”

“Eh?” Jiro spared his closed palm a glance, before putting his full attention back on his boss. “Guess it looks that way, doesn't it? I'll go take care of it, Boss.”

There was something comforting about having a bandage - no matter how small - on his body, Jiro thought. It reminded him of his childhood. Long hours in uncomfortable chairs in badly lit hallways. Followed by years of feeling alone and unwanted.

“Why couldn't it have been you?”

Had that really been his childhood? He had had Akira and Aki in later years, but for the first ten years of his life. . . Jiro had been alone.

Well. . .

Jiro had entered the world with someone else, and now he was being forced to keep going . . . alone.

“It should have been you.”

He had people, he had a family of sorts, however there was a piece of him missing. And, he always seemed to remember that missing piece when he got hurt. It was why he liked to be hurt. . . to remember her.

It should have been me. . .

A knock at the door shook Jiro from his thoughts.

“Jiro-kun?”

“Yes? Coming.” With a shake of his head, Jiro tried to clear his mind. He spared one last glance at his band-aid covered finger, before heading back to work.

. . . no, we should have gone together. It's no fair trying to live on your own, when you came into the world with another person.
