In 24 hours I'll be on the last stretch of a 14 hour bus ride to OK (barring any weather related complications). We're also praying for an ice storm on Jan 1st. There are plans in the operation order for extending our leave if the weather impeads travel.
Good news/bad news
The good news is I saved a whole bunch of money on my car insurance. No, the good news is Arzola's mom is doing better. She'll be out of the hospital in time for Christmas.
The bad news is I found out my uncle Pedro passed away. He had AIDS and his immune system finally shut down. He was in the hospital for a week or so before he passed. It's especially hard on my mom cause he was her little brother (however they didn't growup together) and of course Melissa (he was her biological father). I wasn't very close to him since I only recall 2 times I got to hang out with him. He showed ne the Spice channel for the first time and took me to my 1st Yankees game. I haven't been to NY in several years. I intended on going this year but financial issues prevented that from happening. It pissed my off because my grandpa passed away a few months ago and he was one of my main motivations for wanting to visit. I HAVE to go when I get back. I'd like to get to know my family more before I start losing more relatives.
If anyone wants to come to NY with me in October let me know. I also will be making a trip to Thailand next time my dad goes.
Since I'm on the subject of death I might as well get this out of my system. Everyone tells me to be careful but when people are trying to blow you up every day you can only do the best you can. Although I 100% believe I will come home and bring all my troops back with me, the fact is there's a possibility that might not be the case. The camp we're going to was attacked 2 weeks ago, more IEDs have been going off in that area too. You know I'm going to do everything in my power to make sure my guys never have to go outside the wire. I volunteered for that stupid Kandahar mission in Afghanistan so no one else would have to do it (and sure enough it was the only time I got shot at by small arms fire), so it wouldn't be the 1st time.
But I don't have to worry about any of that for a while. Almost time to go home, enjoy the company of family and friends, eat good food, and find a warm bed to sleep in :)
