Another satisfying Wrede & Stevermer book.
Cecy and Kate, now both very happily married, are off to the continent with their new husbands for their wedding journey. Of course, being Cecy and Kate, trouble manages to find them with aclarity. Mysterious parcels from unknown people, the hiring of French maids, a new style of knitting and strange magics await the pair. Kate is continually surprised by her new title and manages to fall into the canals of Venice. Cecy goes into raptures over shopping in Paris and attempts to make a focus for her magic. With a list of antiquities from Cecy's Papa to visit, and friends of Lady Sylvia's all over the place, Cecy and Kate manage to find themselves at the centre of a great deal of trouble.
Written as the commonplace book of Kate and a letter by Cecy to the British Ministry, interspersed, the book is a lovely sequel to Sorcery and Cecelia. If you haven't read the first book, I'd recommend hunting it down first (try a specialist fantasy bookshop, or a local one that's willing to order in. P.C. Wrede books are impossible to find on the shelves at the best of times). After all, they're Regency-style romances with exciting adventure plots and magic thrown in. And if you like very English Magic where it's a very respectable thing to do or study, you'll find the books very satisfying.
