I found my American wallet. This is the wallet I used while I was in the States two years ago - I kept all my ID and rewards cards and bus tickets and SIM and things in it when I got home. The only thing that doesn't live in it is my Social Security Number, which instead lives with my Australian Tax File Number Certificate, and whoa, do those two documents ever look different.
My REI card was still inside it. Fingers crossed the number still works, since I just used it to get a discount on replacing my black thermal top.
The thermal underwear you can get in Australia, to put it mildly, is completely shit. You can get the horrible scratchy polyester stripey stuff, or you can get expensive merino woolen ones, but there isn't actually much at all of a middle ground.
When I was in the US I got myself a set of the thin REI thermals. Just the cheapy synthetic ones. They feel lovely and soft and a little silky, and they're so ridiculously better than the stuff I can find in Australia that I basically lived in them in Tahoe (despite having brought two other sets from home), and my top disappeared somewhere once I got back to Australia.
And yes, I suspect the 'disappeared' that was someone acquiring for themselves, since I've been through the ski gear thoroughly twice, and it's not there.
Since I have money to ski this year, I needed a thermal top I was willing to wear again. So I just ordered a new one from REI. Which meant I needed to dig out the wallet to see if I still had my card.
So new thermal top! And I got to play with crazy American money again (my $3 note and my $1 US coin as well as a handful of other change was in my wallet. Mwahahaha).
