Icecream flavours

Them wonder at there being 32 flavours of icecream in the world. "Well, you've got vanilla, strawberry and chocolate. Vanilla-and-chocolate. Strawberry-and-vanilla. Chocolate-and-strawberry-and-vanilla...."

(Very loosely paraphrased from Good Omens)

I was buying icecream this weekend as a special dessert for Dad for his birthday, and I ran into this problem.

Australian supermarkets are not quite so benighted as the poor children of Good Omens England.

After all, these exciting icecream options were available in the fancy icecream section of my local Woolworths:

Vanilla
Chocolate
Chocolate Swirl (Vanilla-and-Chocolate)
Choc Chip
Strawberry Swirl (Vanilla-and-Strawberry)
Boysenberry Swirl
Cookies and Cream
Caramel Swirl (Vanilla-and-Caramel)
Neapolitan (Vanilla-and-Strawberry-and-Chocolate)
Mint Choc Chip
Caramel Cookies and Cream (The biscuits were caramel flavoured, not chocolate flavoured)
ChocCaramel Swirl (Caramel-and-Chocolate)

There was also the exciting, brand-named options of "Violet Crumble Icecream" and "Rolo Icecream", which promised the delights of Vanilla-and-Chocolate-and-Honeycomb Pieces, or Vanilla-and-Chocolate-and-Caramel Sauce.

Basically, the last three options on my list were the true radical excitements. Mint Choc Chip in a tub, rather than bought in a cone! Swirling two icecream flavours together, instead of diluting them with Vanilla! USING OTHER BISCUITS!

I've spent time in US supermarkets. I've bought your icecream. I actually sharehoused with other Aussie girls, which meant each of us had at least two tubs of icecream in the freezer at all times, because the shock of flavour options outside of Vanilla, Strawberry, Caramel, Chocolate, Choc Chips and Cookies and Cream was almost too much for us.

I mean, everyone knows icecream shops have more options at their command. But sometimes I think it might be nice if the supermarkets tried to catch up.
