It sounds like they have approval to make The Dead of the Night and The Third Day, The Frost. Yayayay!
Of course, it's still in rumour stage, and IMDB only has them listed as in development, while referring to them as "Tomorrow When The War Began (2) & (3)" (Shame on you, shame. They have names! Changing the names will incite the wrath of their target audience).
I'm still thoroughly amused that if you mention the movies to my age group, the first comment routinely uttered is "my childhood!" They hit their target market right on the nose.
Of course, I'd be happier if American sources stopped referring to them as adaptions or ripoffs of Red Dawn. Yes, they share a premise. However, after 10 books and becoming the iconic book series of the 90's for Australian teens, I think they're allowed to stand on their own merits.
(Also on the list of 'series that share premises and/or openings' - Raymond E Feist's Magician and John Flanagan's Ranger's Apprentice contain very similar opening chapters, to the point that I was wondering "where have I read this setup before?". The series go on to diverge a little from each other after the Young Male Hero goes into Sneakysneaky training. Hint: only one of the heroes ends up on a dimension-hopping adventure and living in a world that's developed high-tech ceramics and laminates due to metal shortages. The other spends a lot of time with Viking-equivalents, playing LotR-style Ranger, and hanging out with his diplomat girlfriend)
