Reading through my Honor Harringtons - there's a glossary. In War of Honor. For the uninitiated, that's Book Ten of the main series.

What on earth happened? I know WoH is well into the complicated tail end of the series where you kinda have to decide on a reading order method to keep track of what's going, but a glossary? Now, I won't fault that a list of the abbreviations of ship types doesn't go amiss, but by WoH you've either sorted out all that in your head, or given it up as a hopeless business long before. But entries like who the Graysons are? Really? Or the Sillies, Sollies, Manties, Andies, Peeps abbreviations? The entry-level Honor books stop way, way back around Honor Among Enemies, and even that far into the series is stretching it a bit - starting after A Short Victorious War is hard enough (especially when you read back, looking for Third Yeltsin).

What on earth happened in my copies that they found the need to add a glossary - at Book 10? Not before, just then?
