I was talking to a couple of my friends, and one of them had read the Civil Procedure E&E the summer before 1L. She also understood civ pro better than anyone else I knew, and I'm pretty sure she got an A, even though we had the toughest professor in the school. So, doing a little bit of prep work maybe isn't as terrible an idea as I thought! I really wouldn't do it for everything, but it might be helpful for something tough like civil procedure.
