Everybody knows old Joe. He's a crusty old republican. A career politician, corrupt to the bone. I think he's an ass.
He stalled Gov. Spitzer's marriage bill in committee, refusing it let the bill go to the Senate for a vote, even after the Assembly passed it.
Old Joe has changed him mind.
interesting how he wouldn't let it come for a vote on his watch by now is "the right time." i wish people would ask him real questions like why now and not last year. it would like some insight into how his little mind works.
i love how because of the laws joe can't actually lobby the state senate for 2 years, yet he was put in as CEO of a lobbying firm the second he left office. so he can't be the one to make the calls to call in favours but he can get his minions to do it. what kind of sense does that make?
i do wish we could separate the whole republican thing from the religious conservative thing in this country. there are things i like about the theoretical concepts behind republicans, like keeping government local and out of people's individual decisions. these things don't need to have fundy jesus values added to them. the christian right folks would be horrified if the democrats started telling them what they could and could not do in their homes and churches so why can't we have some mutual respect and understanding here?
this sort of thing makes it obvious to me that we need more political parties. if we had parties for christian rights, christian moderates, christian lefts, agnostics, jews, hindus, muslims, atheists, pagans, human beings...... of all political leanings we would have better chances of finding representation that fits our views. and having more diversity of political voices would hopefully lead to more creative problem solving. why is this so hard?
