The fortnight has been a whirlwind.
To rehearse, the panto tour- we were sent to 'Panto Camp.'
No joking. We're talking a residential stay. We're talking 6am starts, and midnight finishes. We're talking not a day off, back to back dance and sketch routines. We're talking fucking smiley happy people 24/7. We're talking bitchy, resentful people who don't want to be there but need to to earn a buck. We're talking sharing a dormitory with 8 other people. We're talking hardly anything to eat, as they were catering on their own bill. We're talking a really good growing experience. We're also talking at times of utter hell.
The hell got worse though. On the 10th day, my departure day- someone from another cast fell ill. I was meant to have a week off before my troupe went out on tour, but as it happens I was asked to fill into this other cast for a week, tour with them, and then return to my own cast. I did all this, and returned back to my original cast today.
The tour has been going really well. I'm absolutely loving acting every day, i'm loving whipping kids up into a storm, i'm loving being the hated villain every day and i'm loving seeing random places.
I'm hating the early starts (5am this morning!), i'm hating the long journeys, i'm hating the bubbling conflicts among cast that can only get worse as we do this every day until February and i'm hating, nay detesting, loading and unloading the van and erecting set, sound and lights in every venue. We're given 2 hours to set up, and 30 minutes to pack up and be on the road again- with a 2 hour 15 minute show in between. It's brutal.
But i think I love it.
I think.
