I have met and interacted with kids who are fucked up beyond all recognition. My mother used to be a foster parent, and we took in a lot of kids who were from unfortunate situations. One that really stands out was this kid we took in, a little boy around the age of 10. He was uncontrollable- this kid would run around the house screaming for no reason, stab water bottles with steak knives (ones we had stored for when my brother and I went to sleepover camp), rip up carpet around our basement, and once, he even went ballistic and charged in front of an oncoming car (I had to grab him to avoid him being hit). He was an extremely violent little shit- he hit my mother on countless occasions and threatened to kill/hurt her multiple times. Needless to say, we sent him back because he was a threat unto us and to himself, and my mother could not handle having him in our house.
I should also mention that when he went back to the foster care center, he lied easily about how my mother beat him and threatened to kick him out onto the street, which was total bullshit. My brother and I were witnesses to this kid's behavior and it was absolutely unbelievable.
I have dealt with a lot of disadvantaged kids first hand, and I can honestly say that it is not *always* the adult's fault- though, the original birth parents or the orphanage that he came from could have a hand in how he is, behavior wise.
Since I work at many different schools, I run into many types of kids, including those with serious behavioral problems -- I remember once finding a computer basically torn up entirely into little bits after one of the kids' tantrums.
But I'm inclined to believe the woman in the article was at least as sociopath as she claims the kid to be. So, at worst, they're both sociopaths -- which doesn't help any party.
