Today I found out that legislation requires that high schools give up your personal information to recruiters such as your address and phone number. They acquired the power to do this because of Bush’s “no child left behind” act. If high schools do not comply with the military recruiters, they face losing all federal aid. 15 percent of the nation’s high schools however, have denied the recruiters access to this information and the military is calling them “problem schools.” But the schools that aren’t withholding this information have many ways in which they can and are interpreting the law. Many are just handing over directories without telling anyone. The shocking thing is that recruiters are open with their plans to aggressively pursue students. You can withhold your records but it is recommended that you do so before entering your junior year. I am strongly opposed to this act because it affects anyone from 16 to 18, and if they do wish to enlist they will with or without a recruiter nagging in their ear.
i had to write this for world history but i think you should all ask to keep your iinfo private. isnt that shitty though. politics suck.
