World of the Upper Arm v.3

Jan 24, 2009 22:08

Round three and I think I just hit the mat. I found a fun little website where people are posting their guesses about what in the world the Spitz's songs even mean. I guess, judging from the range of answers and the retardation that is readily apparent that I don't really stand a chance of piecing this one together.

The most compelling suggestion was that the song was about a mosquito. Tiny, cold, soft world being its egg. And the 'taken for a ride' being an imaginative appreciation of it's first flight. Doesn't really catch everything though.

The others were pretty bizarre. One guy was talking about machine guns in his heart... Then the standard it's about a broken relationship stuff, but not enough direct explanation to bring me on board.

I also talked to one of my teacher friends and she told me that 'ninoude' besides being upper arm can be used like 'right hand' as someone who supports. I get the feeling that a 'ninoude' is not nearly so important as a 'right hand', just sort of someone who's always there helping with little things, but doing it well. That would make sense with the random blog entry I found titled 'Ninoude no Sekai' as she? was talking about having difficulty closing shop because the alarm wouldn't activate.

But, with that meaning for ninoude and the photo of the buried clay statues pictured in the second half of the YouTube song I have my own bizarre theory. What if the song is about the burial chamber (and before) of Emperor Quinn? It would fit some things, but it's begging to be about someone (or someones) in particular and I really don't know enough about it.

I suppose I'm not completely given up, someone might get it, or I might find the place where Spitz spill all their secrets. What good is a band if you can't understand their work eh?

Anyways, here's my translation to help me remember. You can follow this link to hear the song:

World of Ninoude~
Cold to touch and supple
A tiny world made by the two of us
Vaguely passed down to this day
It contracts, grows, and softly takes flight.

Tan tan-tan tan
It took me for a ride, soaring
Tan tan-tan tan
It took me for a ride, soaring

Ah. In that follower of yours
I saw a lonely and mean yesterday
Just sticking your face out a window
and laughing, you'd become red

Tan tan-tan tan
And then I fell instantly
Tan tan-tan tan
And then I fell instantly

Just clinging and clinging. That day
Also kissing the infant belly hair
I recall that I am alone here
Just inhaling a smokey voice

It's nothing. I was looking out
I did nothing so why have I become hard?

Tan tan-tan tan
I am stone. I cut off the sky
Tan tan-tan tan
I am stone. I cut off the sky
Doot-de-do. I feel a little closer this round. Next time I'll try to find some Japanese blogger than thinks he knows what it's saying. Then I'll try my friend Natsuka.
