wands and witches
randomly poking around the internet, thinking I might update my ravenclaw student cosplay/garb/whatever. i found some ravenclaw iron-on patches for pretty cheap, 3 for 10$. I'll hunt down an appropriate tie and sweatervest at goodwill.
I have a wand courtesy of Ninja, he found one of those tv remote wands that you can program to the telly. its super awesome, but so far it doesnt seem to match any character in particular. I went on to a few official sites with pics of the movie wands. so far the closest match is somewhere in between madam pomfrey's wand and fenrir greyback's, of all things.
not sure how many of you know this, but what wood each wizard's wand is matched with isnt random. the celtic druids had their own wand-lore and a zodiac to go with it. I double checked and it looks like Rowling did her homework. Harry's wand is made of holly, the tree associated with his birthday. not sure about the other characters, as their birthdays illude my memory, but i think it's pretty safe to assume the same. http://www.celticradio.net/php/zodiac.php?type=index
the tree zodiac seems to line up with the greek relatively well, at least, the Alder entry (late march- early april) describes an aries pretty well and the ash entry is more or less pisces. feel free to disagree, I by no means looked at them all.
I thought I'd share for any potter fans out there who hadn't decided what their own wand type would be, the zodiac's a decent starting point. I'm gonna pretend my plastic wood is alder, as the wood color matches and the personality works for me :3
so there we go, 14 inches (the remote's length) alder wood, core of energizer bunny XD (in-verse it'd be phoenix feather ^^)
