Last Friday, I was supposed to have the whole day off from my part-time gig so I could work on my own business. I was called in just after lunch to do something that troubled me a bit. They were "letting someone go" (aka firing her) and when this happens, it is my job to shut off all access to the computer and security systems while they are being told the news. I've done this many times before, but this time I felt really sad and kind of like I was responsible for some reason. She had been at this office for almost 6 years. She was the only employee left who had been here longer than me. She is in her late 50's and her husband is disabled. She is a good friend and I talk with her about personal things far more than I talk with any other coworker here. I understand that it is the best thing for the business because we do have someone more qualified for her position and I think this other person could do a great job in this position, but I still feel bad.
I hope everything works out for the best for her.
