Yup. There's apparently bad blood of some sort between them; they don't speak. An Indian filmmaker (I forget his name at the moment) had planned to do a movie regarding the "troubled relationship" between Ravi and Norah, but they both refused to talk to him or to endorse his movie; each stating that they wanted to keep their private biz between themselves. AFAIK, the disputed movie has not yet been made.
I met Ravi Shankar, not as the Sitar Player to the Beatles (or in any music-related manner), but rather, as a Jyotishi of some note. He was one of the kindest, most patient, and friendliest folks you could ever meet, and unbelievably helpful in my awkward attempts to figure out Vedic Astrology.
Apparently, NJ has a friendly relationship with Anoushka Shankar, her half-sis, another of Sri Sri Sri Ravi's daughters. :->
Her birth name is, I believe "Geetali Norah Jones Shankar." Ravi and Sue Jones never married, and it seems likely -- although it's just speculation, I don't know -- that they didn't spend much time together when she was young, as he was a world-traveler, already considered a guru in several traditions (a couple forms of Indian music and dance, and Jyotish), as well as playing concerts and shows during her childhood.
Since NJ grew up with her mother, and they seem to have a close relationship, I've wondered if bad blood between the two parents might have played a role in NJ's and RS's estrangement. Norah and Anoushka are apparently friendly, so it doesn't seem like she wanted to cut ties with the whole branch of the family.
The sisters are both beautiful women who are also beautiful performers, regardless of the dreaded Family Dynamics.
She is better than her father was at the same age. When he was young he had a tendency to show off and try to play stuff that was a little beyond his grasp. You can here the flubs where his brain gets ahead of his finger.

That might be enough to strain things.
Then again, I don't know if this was a reliable source.

Anoushka, on the other hand, it technically superb. I was looking for here version of George Harrison's The Inner Light, but it appears you tube took it down., but you can see here here http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x7xwt0_anoushka-shankar-concert-2003_music&autoPlay=1&related=1
And I did not know Nora Jones was Ravi's daughter.
