Well, I know it’s been some time since my last post, but to make along story short. My beloved truck is no more. A week ago I was driving home in an ice storm and careened off of a guardrail and smashed head on into a concrete wall that housed the subway system on the other side. I really didn’t think it was all that serious until the airbags blew up in my face.
While waiting for the police to show up I witnessed two additional accidents. In all, on the Philly stretch of I-95 that evening there were 20+ accidents. The roads and the bridges were actually shut down for a spell and I was stuck in the city.
I had the tow truck guy drop me off at a gigantic bar situated on Delaware River called Dave and Busters. Look it up, they have several locations. It’s a big bar, game room, and arcade all rolled into one.
I wandered in disoriented from the accident and the cold. Honestly I’m not sure if I was shaking from the cold or from my nerves. I only knew that I needed a beer at that point.
When I walked in, it was like I was trapped in the twilight zone. There were TV cameras everywhere. I moved from wandering aimlessly on a frozen stretch of highway into a warm bar that had camera crews, soundmen, and people putting on false faces, wishing that the fun they were portraying was real.
After I sat and ordered the largest beer they had, I inquired as to what was going on. Apparently, Entertainment Tonight was there filming a birthday party for an American Idol contestant that didn’t make the cut. Whatever, just feed me chicken fingers and keep my glass filled. It took a little over two hours for my parent’s and Sharon to come get me. I can’t thank them enough for braving the cold and such.
Unfortunately I only had liability on the truck so the insurance company basically told me to get lost. The next day my Father and I went down to the tow yard in North Philly to see what the deal was with my truck. This was a crappy neighborhood to say the least. I assumed that I was in the “Spanish” part of the Philly ghetto since there were signs everywhere for beans.
Once at the tow yard it became apparent that there was no way my truck was to be salvaged. The back end of it had been pushed a full foot to the side and this twisted the frame and actually made the bed of the truck buckle in the middle. Furthermore when I hit head on it bent the frame further in the opposite direction. I collected the stuff out of the truck, and lamentably signed over the title to the tow yard troll.
After tax time, I’ll probably look for another vehicle. An old Saturn possibly. In the mean time I’m just driving the van, and under extreme circumstance my Father will lend me his truck. Is there no end to the amount of debt I am into for this man?
Tinkering
Not too much going on. Been pretty stupid since the accident.
Tinkered a bit with a programmable flash card for my Game Boy Advanced. Rewired the phones in our house, and laid a bit of network cable as well, also started playing with some ODBC connections and MySQL server.

Health
Haven’t really had an opportunity for much exercise and my eating habits have been somewhat below par. I am still maintaining 156 lbs.
Dream
Had a dream with my Grandfather in it. I always love a visit with him even if he only lives on in my gray matter.
Weather
Well basically there was a gigantic ice storm but it turned nice and reached 70 degrees and today it has dropped into the low 20’s again. Snow is expected.
Mindless Banter
In the end doesn’t EVERYONE pay for someone’s douchbaggery?
Daily Good News
No one was hurt in the accident, and it cost me nothing.
Opinion
What kind of car to get. I can only spend about $2,000 max, I would like it to have at least 30MPG, and be made after 1995 so it will have OBDII on it.
I thought about a Saturn since I know a few people who have/had them and they are workhorse cars.
What to buy what to buy?
