I registered awhile ago with this program online for camp leaders. What they do is give people from all over the world a chance to go over to the States for a summer and work at a summer camp. Pretty fun stuff; they get you the visa you need, help with your flight, and you get paid!
So I registered, and had a phone interview with a girl named Lauren. I asked her about my situation, wherein Im just living in Ireland but will be back in Canada before summer begins, and she said that would be fine, and if I got through and was accepted into the program, theyd find a way to get me to camp.
Then I had my in-person interview with a girl named Lisa. She was a hoot, and at the end told me that Im pretty much guaranteed an acceptance into it,with bonus points for being Canadian- more camps will want me since itll be cheaper to get me into the US/get my visa.
The other day (I was going to post this right after I got the call, but internet wasnt working) Lauren called me back to tell me that not only have I been accepted, but that because of my unique situation theyre starting a Canadian camp leaders program. You read that right.Tthey started a whole new program just because Im so awesome. This means that itll be even easier to get around all the red tape, and Ill be getting paid a good $400 more for the summer since Im so much closer. I just have to arrange my own transport, but I have the options of plane/train/bus/roadtrip. I just looked up Greyhounds, and a bus ticket to San Jose (the first place in California I could think of,which would be the longest trip) is about $200-300. Id be taking a pay cut from working fulltime for the summer,of course, but I can choose where I want to go,and some camps might only be 2 months.
Im pretty pumped.
awesome,
