In some ways I was wrong about this being a better week. I did finish and send my very long email interview. I heard back from PETA Friday night saying they had received it and would get back to me next week, so I'm still excited about that. I'm going to interpret hearing back from these multiple times as a sign that they're taking me seriously. I haven't heard anything about the second position, but apparently the owner of the company is a little flaky (great), so I just have to keep on it.

I didn't do much writing this week, which was a disappointment, but makes me very excited about the things I need to accomplish next week. I had kind of a quiet weekend, which I think I needed. For some reason during the week I was contacted by a lot of different people I haven't spoken to in awhile, all of whom had some sort of majorly dramatic thing they wanted to talk to me about. Some of these things weren't bad, but all of them were exhausting. I essentially dedicated the weekend to making my first Fall soup and reading Antonia Fraser's Marie Antoinette biography.

In case I've never mentioned it, I'm obsessed with making soup, particularly doing colder months when I don't eat as much. My first soup of the year was kind of a weird barley-lentil-veggie stew. I used a Bob's Red Mill veggie soup mix as the base, which I've never done before - barely, lentils, yellow and green peas, tiny pasta. Then I added a lot of different spices, chipotle powder, a potato, some sweet peppers, corn, and tempeh. I also have this new addiction to tempeh. I'm a little bit over tofu, plus tempeh is better for your stomach because it's fermented. And it's delicious. I also added some fancy tomato sauce, so it has a little bit of a tomato soup feel to it.

I think next week I'm going to make roasted squash chowder with butternut and spaghetti squash. Fall really is the best season. I passionately love winter, but there's some sort of magic about Fall that makes me excited about all kinds of mundane things.

I think next week I'm going to stay home and try to attack as many projects as possible. I think I've mentally recovered from the recent drama and family issues, but having a week at home to focus on work and writing will get me back to 100%. I also think I'm going to try my hand at making some different breads and, of course, more soup. I've found that the older I get, cooking has become another way to relax and be productive at the same time.
