RoB, I enjoy reading your posts and I agree with your sentiments. I posted a simple discussion topic yesterday about seeking others thoughts and got pretty blasted by individuals' righteousness about the issue. Nevermind that they had very little intellectual argument than "well, I'm right, you're wrong, you suck" mentality.
I think these issues are far more magnanimous than most individuals understand. This bill will change the ways we provide services to people. Furthermore, the psychological services/humanist services could be virtually eliminated. It's a scary thought, but most people haven't looked at that side of the coin yet... or they have and they just don't want to discuss that.
Then again, we live in a "right now" society... so something comes up, Americans run with it and a few years down the line say, "oh shit! that's now what we wanted... damn our desire for immediate gratification!"
We live in a "free" country, but yet now every citizen will be mandated to buy health insurance. Where is our freedom to choose? What about those individuals that choose not to have that?
Just interesting foods for thought.

Maybe its a lost cause, but I believe treating people with respect begets more respect (in these discussions).
