This is a dream about bear-human hybrids, space kidnapping, and African language translation. It's long.

I was in a parking lot underneath an office building, climbing over cars that had been parked to form a blockade. I didn't think about what they could be blocking until I leapt over the last car and saw the Bear Man. He looked like a strange albino dog with human eyes and giant paws and teeth. He leapt for my throat, snarling. I blocked him and he bit my arm. I fell down and was knocked unconscious.

When I woke up, the Bear Man was sleeping on my stomach like a kitten. I tried to move without disturbing him, but he immediately woke up and started snarling. Out of hopelessness, I began to talk to him, and tell him I didn't want to hurt him. He immediately calmed down, sighed, got off my chest and began to pace back and forth. He started to speak to me.

He told me one in five babies that are born every year are born as half-human, half-bear. He said they're mostly killed and it's a big conspiracy, but he had fought his way out and lived on the streets for a few years until he was brought here to be used as a guard dog. He was fed up with his employers, though. He felt that he was a human, too, although only half, and they treated him as if he were 100% bear.

I helped Bear Man navigate the way out and over the maze of jumbled cars until we reached the elevator. I patted his nervous paw as we ascended to the top floor to confront his employers. When the door opened, I told him to go and do it himself, and that he didn't need my help. It was an emotional goodbye.

i heard sirens go off in the office complex and realized why I had come there in the first place. I got back in the elevator and shot back down to a lower floor, where I was supposed to meet my parents so we could watch my brother as he commenced his first space mission as a newly accomplished astronaut. I found a small white room where my parents were, but they seemed very drugged and hazy. A vent in the wall was spilling over with gaseous vapors. Before I could make the connection, I was in complete brain fog.

My parents suggested we go down another corridor and go boating. We went into a man-made lake and sat in a tiny boat as it went through what looked like a circus ride. The images before me seemed very small, and I felt like I could move my mind in space but not my body. I moved my mind (?) back to the room we had been in before and saw my brother there. He was talking to the press as he was putting on his space suit. His eyes were just giant black pupils. He was saying how he wasn't disappointed we weren't there because he never expects us to come through for him. Then, instead of getting on a space shuttle, he got on a plane that was driven by kidnappers. I screamed, but we were still in the circus tunnel, immobilized by drugs. My parents were singing and braiding each others' hair.

I woke up on a plane to Africa. I had made the decision to drop out of school and be a translator for medics somewhere in Africa, but I didn't have a passport or knowledge of any African languages at all. I don't know why it was working so smoothly, but I had been hired immediately by a group there, so I went.

When I arrived, they gave me a clean white office and a dictionary, and told me to get to work learning the language. I told someone in the office that one out of five children born every year are half-human half-bear, and they didn't believe me. They said that it all must have been a dream, and I got very emotional and told them that Bear Man was real! I hid under my desk, because people kept walking by and I was very scared of them. I tried to read the dictionary, but my eyes couldn't focus. People from the office kept leaving me notes, little drawings and funny sayings. They were all always winking at me, like we were all conspiring against the boss. But I didn't understand what was happening and it really didn't seem like a medical office at all and I wanted to go home, but I didn't have a passport.

Um, and then I woke up.

I miss my friend Bear Man. :( Probably the most lovable character I've ever met in a dream.
