I'm starting to freak out a little bit. And looking for advice from people who have relocated somewhere.
I've been given the chance to move up to another town, having been given money to move there by my grandmother. I really want to go but starting to get very nervous.... *sighs* Because of what I've been hearing from people, from society. 'You shouldn't go without a lot of money saved up!' 'You need a plan and job before you go!' Yet on the other hand, I'm hearing 'you won't ever know that you can succeed if you don't try.' 'Sometimes you have to believe in yourself and take a leap of faith.'
....It's fucking conflicting and would people stop telling me one thing then turning around and saying something else completely different?! I've been looking for a job in New Orleans but outside of fast food there is hardly anything and my lack of transportation is hurting me there. If it was Europe or Asian, that wouldn't matter because public transportation is a vital aspect of the cultures. In the US, people are expected to have their own vehicle.
*sigh* I'm not planning on moving there for another four to six weeks, to try and get a temp job at a temp agency so I can earn a few paychecks between now and then. But it's almost as if everyone expects me to fail before I even try...yes I haven't kept a job for more then two/three years but I can and have worked. My longest kept job was at Powell's and we worked very hard, twelve to seventeen hours a day six days a week. So I'm no stranger to long, hard hours.
I need to try this, just to prove to myself I can support myself. But with all the whisperings in my ear, I'm doubting myself.
It won't be all sunshine and roses, as my friend put it, but I'm trying to psych myself up that this can work. So...now the question is should I apply to jobs up there NOW or wait until I get there to look for a job? Decisions, decisions. I'm torn in which direction I should go. The one thing I am certain about is that I could easily get hired at a fast food restaurant because I've worked at two before and got hired by another but because of the daycare job I had gotten, never officially begun to work there.
Stormy, you've done this. Any hints, advice that you can offer my way?
