Rabbit Ears Perk Up for Free HDTV

It amazes me how many people don't realize that with their newfangled HDTV's that all they need to do these days is to plug an antenna into the back of their TV in order to get HD-content. That's right, you don't need cable or satellite in order to watch TV. Hell, most people don't realize that "-TV" denotes that your viewing contraption has the ability to pull signals out of the air (that's why it was termed "television.")

Dave/whowantscookies can tell how I surprised the hell out of his former neighbor when I pointed out that his expensive assed 55" Sony LCD HDTV had an RF jack where he could plug in an antenna to receive HD over the air.

Which is why I never got the panic a month or so ago when Cablevision had a little contract dispute with the Fox networks (where Fox, FX and Fox Sports were all blacked out for Cablevision subscribers), all these people in the Central/North Jersey area were flocking to the bars and restaurants (which had satellite) to watch football games because as one of them put it "I can't believe I can't watch my football games on my TV because of this cable crap!"

When all they had to do was plug an antenna into their TV and watch it for free.

So it makes me wonder how many of you have ever NOT had cable TV or satellite service? Ever had to deal with twisting and turning and bending an antenna to get a clear signal on your TV?
