Decided to put together an "Acoustic" mix of music. When I mean "Acoustic" I mean, featuring prominently the acoustic guitar (ie: not electric, for those not musically inclined.) So here it is if you wanna sample . . .
"Babe, I'm Gonna Leave You" by Led Zeppelin - off the Zeppelin 1 album, it's a pretty darn rockin' song for being acoustic. Think it was originally done by Joan Baez, but I doubt she made it sound this good!
video preview "Still...You Turn Me On" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer - ELP, despite being a Progressive Rock band relying heavily on organs and keyboards, they always found the time to feature at least one acoustic song on most of their albums. This one is from the H.R. Geiger artwork covered,
Brain Salad Surgery. Starts off nice and sweet, but then some wah-wah comes in loud during the chorus. Good stuffs!
video preview "Wild" by Seal - this version of this song, the original version appearing on his first album, was the song that got me liking Seal. When I first saw/heard him, it was his song "Crazy" and I thought he was just your run of the mill pop star. But then I saw a music video of him performing this acoustic version of "Wild", and I thought it was kick ass! Went right out the next day and got his album (of course the studio version of "Wild" is a bit different, but still a good song.) I was never able to get this acoustic version until I bought Seal's music video Laserdisc (no, you can't find this version on any album!)
video preview (and yes, I uploaded this video!)
"Remember 16" from Macross 7 - I don't really like the actual version of this song from that lame anime (though there's a good amount of music from that anime), but I really like this acoustic version found on the Macross 7 Movie CD single, "Heart and Soul". Additional geekines: I actually sang this at the Katsucon 2002 Karaoke. Glad people seemed to like it since some started slow dancing and stuffs! (sorry, couldn't find a video for this)
"Gallows Pole" by Led Zeppelin - another kick ass acoustic song from the Zep, this one from Zeppelin III. Obviously a folk song, done with Zep panaché! An upbeat song despite the downbeat ending.
video preview "From the Beginning" by Emerson, Lake and Palmer - another acoustic song from ELP; this one from Trilogy. Yeah . . . you can feel the 70s emanating from this song!
video preview "Another Day Goes By" by Dakota Moon - it's a shame this band never went anywhere, but I guess there isn't a niche for an all-black acoustic rock and soul band. Heard this song back in '98, and was hooked. Really upbeat and optimistic. Sorry no video preview, but here are
the lyrics "Mirror" by Gackt - yes, I admit it. I like Gackt. To some extent. So I was happy to find that my favorite song from him has an acoustic version! Might have to track down this CD and/or DVD "Seventh Night Unplugged" because this is awesome!
video preview "Question" by The Moody Blues - good song by The Moody Blues, that unfortunately doesn't get as much play as their hits "Nights in White Satin", "Tuesday Afternoon" and "Ride My See Saw". Maybe becase it's kinda long? Any case, I likes it! Hope you do too.
video preview "Ramble On" by Led Zeppelin - probably my fave song by the Zep (it's either this or "Gallows Pole" or "The Lemon Song".) Has something to do with The Lord of the Rings since the song mentions "Mordor" and "Gollum", but you have to wonder how you meet a "girl so fair" in the "darkest depths of Mordor" or why she would be there, and why "Gollum and the Evil One" would steal her away. Here I thought Gollum only wanted the Ring! In any case, an awesome song.
video preview.

Other news, went to University Pinball last night
after work for their $5 all-you-can-play special (all the games are put on Free Play.) Got in a good 5 hours of gaming, including some pinball as well (The Dark Night pinball game was especially fun!)
whowantscookies and I split a series on CvS2 3 to 2 (with me coming out on top--just barely!) and I used the one of the cheapest characters in SFIII, Chun Li, to womp on
stefan_ a bit.
My only gripe about last night, is that I played one of my favorite arcade games of all time, Black Tiger on one of those big emulator games, and got farther in the game than I've ever been. But got to this one point, where I have to make this jump to a platform where you just can't reach no matter how many times I tried! I kept running out of time, so I just gave up. Not sure if that was a glitch, but I'll have to check the Capcom Classics Collection disc I've got to see if that truly is a jump you're supposed to make!
