Day late and a dollar short, but still.
I'll come out and admit, despite having played quite a many pen-and-paper RPG campaigns, I've never been a huge fan of D&D (the first RPG I've ever played was
Gamma World.) However, that doesn't mean I don't appreciate the man who started not only that game, but the entire genre.
If you think about it, anything that involves "levelling up" pretty came from him. That's a helluva lot of influence right there. The legendary anime, Record of Lodoss War? It was originally a D&D campaign!
So for the man that brought us "the natural 20", "epic ________", those
4 sided dice that just happen to be where we step with our bare feet when we're not looking where we step and so many other things us geeks/nerds take for granted; he'll surely be missed.
