I will not be able to sit down reviewing my lessons for tomorrow’s exams unless I write this entry.
“Eternal”, a song by Akanishi Jin, has seized my soul for quite some time. I’ve never written a review for a song or a movie, so this should be my first time. Anyway, I don’t think I should call this a “review” as this is, in its most simple sense, what I think and how I feel about the song as a whole and Akanishi Jin himself.
Firstly, I would love to talk about the lyrics. What is this song about ? The lyrics makes me think that it’s a story. This song is a story, and Akanishi Jin’s career is a storyline. This is not where the storyline ends. Everything has just begun …
Is Akanishi Jin telling us his own love story ? Or is this just some of his thinking about love ? Or is this a pledge Jin-kun is making to himself ? We’ll never know.
To my view, this song is Jin-kun’s reminder of himself.
Jin-kun is afraid of himself. He is scared of his forgetting his hidden secrets. He’s got worked up. He’s tensed up. And he’s relaxed again. And these judgments of mine are based on his facial expressions. He’s adopted an upright and defensive posture. I don’t know how to put this, but I somehow feel it.
The purest feelings.
I’m impressed by Jin-kun’s smile in the middle of this performance. The smile - his brightest smile that I thought disappeared long time ago - is seen again. I love the way he ran his fingers through his hair ( but I guess it’s more like “scratching” his head. Bad Jin-kun ! Maybe he hasn’t washed his hair for some time
). A careless smile. An innocent smile. The smile that brings back a thousand of memories. And more importantly, the smile that makes all of my resentment and doubts vanish.
Just like one of his fan’s saying, she thought that she saw the invisible wings behind his back.
For a very short period, I know that Jin-kun may have paid a short visit to the place called “past”.
He’s singing with all his might. He’s flashing his brightest smile. And what else can I ask for ? After all, this has always been my interest. Yes, my interest is to see a happy smiling face. And this is what I’ve seen while watching “Eternal” for the first time after such a long time
I don’t harbour a fascination for Jin-kun’s good-looking appearance nor am I impressed much by his singing. However, I would say that I’ve had to have second thoughts about what I used to feel. OK, I gradually love his voice …
The title, at first, didn’t provoke much of my curiosity. Maybe because I’ve listened to many songs with the aforementioned title. However, this is special. I didn’t think much of “Eternal” till one hour ago.
“Eternal”- a trisyllabic word - means “endless”, “forever”, “everlasting”, etc … There are many synonyms … you name it ! By listening to this song, I’ve found a new definition of “Eternal”. “Eternal” means gratitude and promise.
“Eternal” is like a whisper and a murmur of hope. It wipes away the suspicion, the hatred and in its innermost subconscious “mind”, raises a hope for a better future. The foreseeable future with a hope for eternity. Well, at least, this is what I think.
