Dear International Reader,
you know, my mission seems to be posting about thing you don't know and probabily won't see in your entire life. But, if there is only 0,0001% of possibility you can reach one of these things, I want you to be aware of what they are.
Ok, so now how can I convince you to see this movie? It's not a pro-life cristian movie, the poster is not exactly similar to the content of film it self. XD Well, I think the best way to fastily explain this is a list, with numbers (I <3 lists!), so let's start our list of
5 good reasons for choosing this movie
1- Paolo Virzì, aka the Director. He is a talented guy, born in Livorno, who is consider the heir of Italian Comedy tradition, the only one at now who was able to preserve its spirit but to talk to people of today. He is quite famous, considering the fame of other directors of Italian Triade (and, if you read religiously my blog, I don't need to name them), because his movies are funny, simple, enjoyable by everyone, even if he don't give up in storytelling about important themes, like women situations, globalized society and such.
2- Womens I always imagine Virzi's mum like a character of 50' italian comedy, because he *had to* have a female role model to be able to write and portray such strong-minded and unique female characters in every single movie. They aren't always intelligent and brilliant, not at all, but with their love of life and their genuine attitude, they shall remain in your heart. Well, at least you won't forgive funny scenes started by some embarassing actions of our female characters.
3- Family You know, for italians, well, especially for italian men, their mother is the best women in the world and the family the most important thing in life. This is the reason (with budget limits) , I think, 80% of modern italian movies got a family story as main story. Well, it doesn't always work, ok, and sometimes the family is reduced to people
shouting at parents or sons (with Jovanotti lento on the background....help meeee!), but this is not what Virzì did. He tells a story, probabily based on his story, settled in his loved/hated Livorno, about a normal family, unique as only normal family could be.
4- The script I'm writing since 30 minutes and I don't explain the main plot of the movie yet! XD I'm a genius, I'm so much better than italian cinema critics, who *must* spoiler a movie ending even in a 10 lines reviews! XD This is a story of a common teacher, played by Valerio Mastrandea, who has problem of drug addiction and depression, plus a deep hate towards his city and family. But when his mother, played by the iconic Stefania Sandrelli, is near to death, he is taken by his sister and he has to return to Livorno. Well, don't imagine the classic movie with a more-dead-than-alive mother who cries all the time remembering the past; this mom is full of energy and always ready to help her grew up children to face the life, even if the big fact is her dead herself. So, if she is so energetic and thoughtful, why her son doesn't want to see her? You will discover the childhood of Mastrandea's character was not exactly normal, and being a "corageous mother" don't mean to always take the right decision.
5- Micaela Ramazzotti she is Virzì wife and a sort of muse...the Helena Bonham Carter of the situation. She is really talented, considering the fact she basically always plays the role of the "stupid" female character. But she is always able to create deepness in these simple -minded women. Ok, I know this will be the strongest point of all this post...she is as hot as hell. And yes, there are several sex scenes in the movie.
(I know this will work more than everything I wrote. You're so simple minded! XD)
