Who: Maya and Shishiwakamaru (Kurama)
Where: Hotel Room, Ireland
When: Day of the arrival at night.
Summary: Maya and Shishi converse, and Maya is not pleased.
Shishi stepped into the room and placed his small bag at the side of the bed, taking a few steps around the room and to the window, shifting the curtains. The hotel had a beautiful sight, the fiery light of the evening painting the forest trees with a copper hue. His gaze lowered admiring the landscape.
Maya dropped her bag at the side of the other bed. Plopping down she slowly pulled her feet up towards her knees and sat on the bed. Setting her hat on the pillow, she looked over at Shishi. She really wanted to know the truth, why he felt like Shuichi. But she wouldn't ask she had a bad feeling if she asked, that something would change forever. She sighed and reached into her bag and slowly withdrew the book on psychic training. She started to leaf through the pages, but kept sneaking glances at Shishi. "You know.. Kurama seemed awfully worried about you for some reason.. "She commented lightly. "Or worried about what you might do.." She said lightly as she leafed through her book. She needed the section on psychic attachments, spirits attaching themselves, and how to get rid of them.
Maya's soft voice called his attention back from the light trance. Purple eyes stared at the girl serenely as she continued to speak. "Worried about me? How so if I may ask?" He did not know if Maya was referring to something he had said or if it was to something Shishiwakamaru in his body had stated. Yet he had to be cautious specially since Maya was developing an acute psychic perception.
The female looked at him from the corner of her eyes, she licked her finger and turned another page. "Nothing, I guess hes just protective of me.."She said lightly. She found the section she needed and frowned, damn she couldn't do it. There was other ways though, not of the human perspective. "Hey.. Shishi-san, do you believe in aliens?" She asked out of the blue. Why not strike up a conversation with him?
"Ohm, I understand," the demon trailed off giving the window a sideward glance to the forest and the evening. Slowly the sun sank in the horizon, soon it would be dark. "Aliens? ...No even if I am a demon I am quite realistic." Shishi stated serenely, though the scene felt as if he had lived it before, not long ago when they were years younger. Maya had not changed... at all.
Maya smiled weakly, "You should, There have been abductions all the time. "She stated as she gained cheeky grin. "This one time I was talking to Kurama... about aliens and stuff, it was so funny.. because these kids in class... there was disappearances and stuff around where we lived. So I thought it was aliens and stuff.. and well.. yeah.. talking to much aren't I?" She asked as she smiled at him. She didn't want to bore him, in fact she felt the urge to make friends with him.
Shishi chuckled and glanced aside, averting his gaze from Maya's amused expression. "I am certain humans tend to look for the supernatural since their regular lives must be dull... I believe it is better for the ningens to believe daemons only exist in tales."
Maya blinked at that, "Is it true that Kurama is a demon?" She asked lightly. "I mean I believe it, but I want to know more, would you tell me please?" She whispered softly. "I want to know more about my friend, about the one I love. Isn't that anything a girl could ask?" She asked as she gave him a weak smile. She set the book to the side and leaned unto the bed until she laid on it, on her stomach. She watched him her head tilted only faintly to the side.
Shishi visibly twitched yet his demeanor remained calm and aloof. "Well, I would be a liar if I claimed otherwise. Mostly everyone in this mission are either demons or psychics like yourself. " The demon explained and he finally closed the window, turning to the bed, pacing toward it slowly. "I wonder why you are so interested in someone as cold as Kurama."
The female tilted her head and listened. She pulled her feet up and bit and slowly swung them back and forth, her head tilted more as she listened to him. She frowned at what he said next and felt then that she didn't like how he acted. "Kurama.. is not cold.. he is the sweetest, kindest person I know. Thats why I fell in love with him, because of his personality. Thats why I want to know more about him... " She said lightly. "I don't know as much as I thought I did.. and I want to know what I don't. So do you know anything?"
Shishiwakamaru stared at Maya as she spoke, his amethyst eyes remained locked in her as if his body was nothing but a sculpture of ice. "I suppose you do not know him. He is always hiding his true nature, even the rest of this team are still dubious of his true purposes. I am certain you can find... other men who are truly caring .. and will love you in return." His gaze had been mysteriously sheltered behind a shadow streak his bangs cast upon them.
Maya shook her head sadly, a weak smile on her face. "I knew him long ago.. I know what he's like. I knew him growing up. He truly cares.... and I can't love another.. He was my first love.. and I am not over him yet, I will not be over him till I want to be. Right now I want to know more about him, what type of demon is he?" She asked as she tilted her head.
"A fox demon." Shishi replied simply as he took some steps toward the bed and sat down, not looking back at Maya. "His youki allows him to manipulate plants."
Maya watched him and tilted her head, "Fox Demon.. wow.. no wonder I always thought he was acting like a fox when we where younger."She said with a faint laugh. "That would explain his green thumb too.. I know that because of him, I love roses so much..."She said weakly. "I know.. its stupid.. but whenever I smelt roses in Korea... I thought of him.." She whispered.
"He does not deserve your love, nor the one of his mother. As you might have noticed he is rarely sincere." Shishiwakamaru remarked coldly.
The female turned her head towards him now anger clearly in her depths. "I will not have you talking about him like that. Understand me? I love Shuichi, and so does his mother.. and I will not take anyone talking bad about him. I am not the weakling I was when I was in Korea, and back when I was younger. I can and will throw you across the room if you make me mad enough." She snapped at him. Then blushed.. she shouldn't act like that, but it was the truth, she couldn't stand people talking about Shuichi like that. With that her head tilted down and she clenched the sheets beneath her hands. "I should set your hair on fire.." She muttered.
His gaze remained on the ground as Maya zealously defended him. It was almost ironic. But he was submerged in an ominous silence. "The way you say it... will not change things. I wished you realized... but only time will unravel the truth. Perhaps... it will before you are truly hurt."
"I will not have you talking about him like that." She stated her eyes snapping anger at him. "Shuichi.. Kurama is still my best friend, and my first love, and I won't have you talking about him like that." She stated her hands clenching more as she growled. "If he was such a bad person then why did he save me TWICE WHY.." She called out to him. Her hands clenching the sheets tighter. "He saved me from the Elemental, and from the demon that kidnapped me. Why in the hell.. would he do that, if you say he is who you say he is. Which I don't believe." She stated. Oh.. he snapped her good, Maya had said a cuss word.
"The fact someone protects you does not mean they care in the way you think. But I do not wish to build your anger, Kitajima-san." The demon said once more, without moving. Inwardly he was regretting his words, but he felt to some extent they were true.
Maya's hand clenched more, "You are a liar Shishiwakamaru, and you don't deserve to know such a wonderful person as Shuichi." She stated a she shifted up. Her head tilted back as she remembered all the fun times she had spent with Shuichi."It is YOU that doesn't know him... I will always know him.. his gentle and kind spirit... comforted me many a times... Good NIGHT Shishiwakamaru.." She stated as she turned and lumped down on her pillow, closing her eyes.
"Oyasumi-nasai," the samurai replied darkly. As he leaned backward on the bed, staring at the ceiling blankly. A myriad of thoughts roaming through his mind. It was true, his life had been based in deception. His mother ignored who he truly was, yet she had loved him dearly. Kaa-san... I wonder if one day... I... The demon removed the rubber band from his hair and folded his arms under his head, silence allowed him to relax and think.
Maya let slumber take her, her anger pushing her further into it. She mumbled goodnight to him again. And slowly found herself entering a deeper sleep, hair splaying across the pillow and her face, honey eyes hidden by her closed lids. She looked calmer then she had before, but she would always stand firm on that, she loved Shuichi.. no Kurama.
Minutes turned into long hours and the silence of the night had engulfed their room. He allowed Maya to rest in peace. Even himself fell to a light sleep, closing his eyes.
Slowly Maya awakened, hours later. A hum racing through her body, as honey eyes dull looking almost, opened halfway. She shifted her form sliding off the bed and standing. Her arms hanging limp at her sides, and her walk almost sleepwalker like. She walked wordlessly towards the door, and opened it. Not bothering to close it she continued to walk, past the stairs, which she turned back and went down. Opening the Hotel doors, she went through those as well. Walking slowly into the night, towards the woods, that would lead her to the great castle. She seemed.. enthralled or possessed by something, but it wasn't Maya.. not the real Maya doing the walking.
Shishiwakamaru awakened almost instantly, his purple eyes snapped open and he turned to Maya. "Kitajima-san?" the demon mused but she did not reply, but continued walking as if he had not heard him. Perhaps that was... The demon pulled the window open and swiftly leapt outside, landing gracefully to bend over one knee. He waited for the girl to cross the hotel's door, determined to stop her. There was a strange spiritual energy in her, which could explain the source of such strange behavior. "Maya-san," he called again.
Maya did not hear his voice, all she wanted to do was keep walking. For a moment her head turned towards him, her eyes completely empty. Then her head turned back to the front and she kept walking. Slowly and surely towards the woods, where a thick mist was rising up. She wanted to get in that mist, be in its embrace. Deep inside herself though, Maya wanted nothing more then to be free.
He turned to Maya and reached for her wrist, but his own hand seemed stopped by a powerful barrier created by the mist, giving the girl's hand a ghostly appearance. Shishiwakamaru was left alone in the silent night "...This spirit must be..." He knew the meaning. Maya would be a hostage of some sorts, and they would need to inminently. Shishiwakamaru turned back and returned to the hotel for Kurama and Kuwabara.
