Who: Shiori and Shuuichi.
Where: Kurama's bedroom.
When: Saturday afternoon.
Summary: Shiori is worried after the past events, questions develop into an interesting conversation.
Kurama was alone in his room, folding the items Kuwabara had 'rescued'. Each day it passed he asked himself how could they be allies. And his very allies behaving as such. Constantly inquiring why Shishiwakamaru had broken into his house, at night, unnoticed and wiped his shelves. Was it some sort of revenge or piled anger? If I did not know they are essential for this mission... I would easily ask them to return to Makai. ...But if this continues, they will be less harmful being in the demon world...
Standing rather sadly at the room's threshold, Shiori sniffed delicately and shook her head grimly. "I just don't...understand." she said for about the 20th time that night, her voice always laced with sorrow. "It's just so mean and horrible..." Wiping at her eyes, the mother stepped beside her son to aid with the clean-up. She sighed heavily and fell silent, for now.
He had been absorbed by his thoughts, that Shiori's presence remained imperceptible until she spoke. "...Mother?" He glanced over his shoulder instantly abandoning his clothes, pacing toward her worriedly. He imagined she would be perturbed by this 'prank' ... but he wanted to hear it from her, and stared at his mother through worried emerald eyes.
Slightly shaken, the woman ran slender finger's over her son's bed sheets and shook her head once more. "It's just so wrong, Shuuichi. Knowing that someone could easily break in..! And oh...what if they wanted to hurt you?" Voice cracked, the woman took a breath as her hand fisted the bed sheets in motherly fury. "It's wrong, but thank goodness you're safe!"
They would not be able even if they wanted... But he could not reply such. "They are not true criminals, just... teenagers attempting to savor the thrill." He dropped in one knee before his mother, so she could see him. "And now that they have showed us they can enter, then, we are aware the security has flaws. We are lucky they showed the weakness without suffering any sort of aggression."
"But," Shiori sighed and turned to face her son before her gaze fell to the floor. "Security isn't supposed to be proven, it's just supposed to comfort us... I don't know, I guess I always thought it would never happen to us, not this house." The mother then smiled and returned her gaze to the redhead. "But, you are right, we should count our blessings. Now, are you missing anything that needs to be replaced soon?"
"Nothing...really." Well, a pair of shoes which now were in possession of Chuu, but he could not tell his mother some drunkard had them. "My martial arts tunic and some potted plants. I have managed to replace them, they were damaged ...but they are strong species." His slender hand reached for Shiori's holding it comfortingly between his. "Nothing is absolutely secure, though it does not mean we have to live paranoid. Now we know the windows need locks... and it will be enough."
"Right...you may want to talk to your stepfather about all this.. He was quite upset and I think he's currently brooding in our bedroom." She continued to smile and patted her son's hands gently. "I think he would appreciate your input. Shuuichi-chibi is just amazed about the whole thing; something to tell his friends, you know?"
He chuckled softly as he stared at his mother, "...Well... it seems I always find a way to give Shuuichi-kun something to be amused with..." he commented, somewhat regretting his misfortunes were his step-brother's friends amusement. "I wished things were calmer... though."
"Ah, he admires you quite a lot, though-" she then blinked at his last words, eyes pooled with understanding. "Yes... First your arm..." A bit of anger entered her eyes at the mention of that injury; she still wondered which student did it. "And now this... Do you have any idea...if some group targeted you?"
He visibly twitched at the question, "No...," it bothered him incredibly to be forced to lie just because of Shishiwakamaru's doing. "My arm broke during the martial arts tournament, it was my fault. I should have been more careful... and this... we it was a small joke. No one was harmed," he forced a smile upon his lips.
Silence fell upon her as she regarded her son with a calm gaze. "Sorry, it's just that... I saw a program about bullies in school doing horrible, horrible things to students that were supposedly gay. I'm not suggesting anything, of course, but it just seems odd that someone would attack you like...this." She gestured softly to the room, sighing as she did so.
He stared at his mother... did she truly compared him...no he was delving too much where he shouldn't. "Adolescents are becoming more and more violent daily. .. But I can promise you I will be fine," he attempted to convince his mother even if it made him uneasy. Though he knew he wasn't lying.
She smiled slightly and gripped her son's shoulder gently. "Sorry if the statement was weird, this all just reminded me of it. And besides, if you were, I truly wouldn't mind. You know that." Teasing, her smile grew as the mother nodded along with his last words. "Yes... I do hope so."
For a moment he found himself wordless, completely vulnerable to his mother's teasing. "I am not...interested in people that way... but if I ever loved someone I would not be ashamed of introducing them to you."
Humming softly, Shiori replied, "That is good. And I certainly would not be ashamed of whoever you bring to meet me...but please, if you do become interested in someone, I only hope they're decent to you and decent to themselves." She smiled once more and began to count off from her fingers, "This means, hygienic, with manners, and certainly not a substance abuser..." She paused, "Then again...love is love, yes?"
"I will keep it in mind, most certain, it is a promise." He was gladdened to see the light had returned to his mother's clement face. Even if it cost was to be teased, the train of the conversation had been successfully shifted. From the collar of his shirt glimmered the edge of the chain, Inari's gift.
Ceasing her hums, the woman caught the glimmer upon her son's neck and gently reached for it. For some reason, it felt strange, like it weighted much more than it should for some reason. Still, she asked in a friendly tone, "A gift from the holidays? It's nice."
His eyes widened softly feeling Shiori's gentle hand brush his neck as she picked the necklace. "...Yes you can say that... do you like it?" he inquired, the more mystery he added, the worse. So Kurama wisely chose to act as if it was not of utter importance.
"Yes, it looks good on you. Is it from someone special?" She returned to venturing around the room, fixing this, cleaning that. "Oh, maybe that Secret Santa thing of Rinku-kun's?"
"Yes... I am not certain who gave it to me. But I admit I have always liked shiny objects, they are my treasures" he sat down on his bed, as Shiori roamed adding her motherly touch to the room.
"It looks good on you, whoever gave it to you certainly picked wisely." She smiled and found the beloved Yuudai-kun. With care, it was placed back onto the bed as she sighed softly to it. "Well, I'm glad you're safe too."
"..Okaa-san... do I cause ...too much trouble?" He inquired lowering his gaze to the ground, staring at the carpet covering the floor. A velvety mane of red hair drifting over his eyes.
"What?" she asked, turning her calm gaze upon him. "Shuuichi, since when- ? You're not any trouble at all. These kids are and I'm sure some fault at home is causing them to be like this. Please don't worry, the only thing that matters is that my family is safe, and that include you, my perfect son."
"I am aware I have been causing troubles consequently...I ...despise to see your eyes wet with tears for me." He shook his head, "It is not fair...Okaa-san. Forgive me..." Perhaps he felt he had to say it before something happened. It was the mission which seemed to elide their lives cruelly, in any moment they could be slayed.
"Shuuichi, don't worry about anything." Fixing a smile and a calm stare upon her son, the woman merely shook her head. "There's nothing to feel bad, I was only upset initially, but now...everything is alright." A lone hand on her hip, she glanced around the room and changed the subject. "Now, this looks fine. I'm going to check on Shuuichi-chibi and you," she pointed with her free hand, smiling softly. "Should go to bed soon, hm?"
"Yes, I will... even if we know I would like to spend the night reading or using the laptop Hatanaka-san gave me for Christmas..." he replied with a mischievous smile.
She laughed quietly, "All right, you're old enough to decide for yourself... I'll see you in the morning." A motherly kiss to his cheek and she left with a smile, content with many things.
His eyes closed after his mother left the room. He loved her, yet he had chosen to lie to her, even if it was for the best, to protect them and it favored him too... In the past days it had been incredibly difficult to hide the symptoms of the period. Anything could happen...
