Yuletide recs :。・:*:・゚'✲

Weeks-late Yuletide rec list, ahoy! Though I suppose it isn't so bad to be a little late, since it means that I can add the author names, and that I could take my time with reading everything.

Fandoms in the list, in the order that I read them: Молодежка/Junior League, Hamlet, Road to El Dorado, V for Vendetta, The Darjeeling Limited, Wir sind die Nacht, A Little Princess, Paranorman, The Razor's Edge, Marathon, World War Z, Fallen London

Format is: Title + Author + Fandom + Characters + Summary + Rating + Length. I think the summary is sufficient for most of these, so I won't leave my own notes - suffice to say, if I'm reccing something here, I liked it a lot and I want people to read it. There are a few that are for things I haven't actually played/watched (the ones for Marathon, Fallen London, and Молодежка/Junior League) but I enjoyed those even so.

In fact, the Молодежка/Junior League story ("Save and Protect") is my favourite out of the Yuletide fics that I read this year, so I'm going to put it above the cut. If you enjoy hockey and/or "personal journey" type sports narratives, it's definitely worth reading - especially since it works very well as a self-contained short story.

01. Save and Protect by ionthesparrow. Молодежка/Junior League. Sergey Makeev. "You make the blades for hockey skates by forging steel, tempering it to the critical point but not beyond, and sharpening the thing with obsessive perfection to a razor’s edge. You make hockey players the same way." T, 5.2K

02. O, Answer Me by Jessalae. Hamlet, pre-canon. Prince Hamlet, Horatio, Rosencrantz and Guildenstern. "Four letters Hamlet sent from Wittenberg, and one he received". Gen, 3k.

03. Confidence Artists by Fahye. Road to El Dorado. Chel/Miguel/Tulio. "The grey light of Spain carries their history with it, and it's gleaming through the cracks. - Two long cons in thirteen conversations". NSFW, 10K.

04. In the Rain by Akerwis. V for Vendetta. Valerie/Ruth. "Valerie still tells stories to herself, even if she isn't writing them down." Contains canon-compliant references to torture/suicide/etc. 1.3K.

05. We'll have to muddle through somehow b youjik33. The Darjeeling Limited. Jack Whitman/Rita. "He flipped open the cover of her book, wrote To Rita. I missed you. Love, Jack. Frowned at the word "love", but it was too late to cross it out now." T, 2.1K

06. Abendemfindung by Aja. Wir sind die Nacht. Charlotte and Louise. Story is about Charlotte, before the film - and before everything. 3k.

07. The Middle Path by isabeau. A Little Princess. Ram Dass. "London is not India, and Ram Dass doesn't think of it as home, but it is where he must go." G, 2.6k

08. One Year Later by Andian. Paranorman. Norman, Gen. "It changes. Naturally it does. He is not that crazy kid who thinks he can talk to dead people anymore. He is that crazy kid who really can talk to dead people." G, 1.4k

09. deuil rose verte by Kormantic. The Razor's Edge (W Somerset Maughm). Sophie and Larry. "I can still see that skinny little girl with the bow in her hair and her serious face whose voice trembled with tears when she read that ode of Keats's because it was so beautiful. I wonder where she is now." T, 1.2K

12. Inside the Perimeter by Nightwalker. World War Z. Original characters. "Everyone has this idea that the north got off easy, and I'm not saying we didn't have advantages. Sparse populations and few big cities meant that there were fewer infected to start with. But all that ended when the refugees started coming through." T, 4.8K

13. A Journey to London: being an account of an orphan, an adventuress, a spy and a dead woman by Disastersaurus. Fallen London: Echo Bazaar. Original characters with a hint of F/F. "Your family is dead. This is to be expected." T, 4.8K
