Author’s Note: In our HUM1 class in the University, we were asked to write a 101-word story. In a sudden fit of inspiration, I wrote this little YamaJima drabble of exactly 101 words! This is not what I have submitted to my teacher, but yeah, I think it still deserves to be read by people like you guys. This is also actually in Yuto’s POV, or Yamada’s. Take your pick.
The wind blew, the birds chirped, the sun burned the back of our necks as we ran. You were smiling and we were laughing as we tumbled down the hills, picked ourselves up and ran again.
“No one can take this away from us,” we vowed. “Best friends forever,” as the dandelion parachutes fluttered down.
The spotlight is blinding. People are screaming our name as we run. You are smiling and singing and I tumble and jump down the platform and shake hands with the crowd. But I jump alone.
We smile, we sing, we laugh. But not together. Not anymore.
