Nice stories on how fans got inspired by “One Chance!”
  • A 52-year old fan said after attending the 1st day of concert in Tokyo Dome, she's been listening to Captain's solo "One Chance!" endlessly.  Then she felt like singing the song while playing guitar on her own and she's wondering if she should attend a guitar class or not.  Though she had been learning piano from 4 years old till 18 years old and sometimes did the accompaniment for the wind instruments, she doesn't know how to choose and hold a guitar.  So, she'd like to get some suggestion from Captain.   Captain expressed his happiness to hear that she'd like to try playing guitar because of the song.  And he thinks Naotarou should be happy to hear about it, too.  He said he's not a guitarist himself, so he couldn't give a great comment about it.  But as for himself, the acoustic guitar he owns is a domestic brand called "Yairi".  He thinks it's wonderful.  And then he also owns an American brand "MARTIN".  He said he'd like her to try "Yairi" guitar.
  • Next one is from a 40-year old fan whose daughter just became a senior high school student this year.  After entering senior high, she started playing archery and was really into it.  Because she made a fast progress, she's acknowledged by her sensei that she has true strength to become no.1 or 2.  She enthusiastically practiced it to the point that it’s worrying.  However, as the competition drew near, her condition got worse and she ended up not hitting the target even once.  Then during the team division, she was moved from Team A to Team C and her (athlete’s) number also became the lowest number.  On the day before the competition, during dinner time, when this mother turned on Captain’s solo song “One Chance!”, her daughter cried while having her meal.  All her feelings that she has held up until now became overflowing (while listening) to Captain’s song.  But then her feeling seemed a little more at ease and her face looked cheerful.  During the match, even though she didn’t hit the target even once in the end, she’s moving forward.  Because of this mother's favorite song of Captain, her daughter was saved.  So, she’s happier than anything else that her daughter will do her best once again.  She felt grateful for Captain and also Moriyama Naotarou.
  • Last story is from a 29-year old male fan.  He said Captain’s solo “One Chance!” really made his heart feel good.  He’s a kindergarten teacher who this year was entrusted with the responsibility of being in charge of a certain big event next month.   But, because of a reconstruction of the kindergarten, there have been a lot of changes.  And while things didn’t go with the routine of the normal year, when he made new suggestions, they were all rejected.  So, he felt like his spirit was breaking.  In such situation, the new album was released, so he tried listening to Captain’s solo while wondering what kind of feeling the song will be like.  As the song lyrics perfectly fit his situation, he unintentionally felt like crying.  The hook part “All the unbearable feelings that's within my chest, it's time to bid them FAREWELL. It is in repeated failures that the answer is hidden. (lyrics translation by rz-jocelyn)”, even when facing failures, keeping doing one’s best without being discouraged made him realize that he has grown into an adult and he was able to face the future.  He also reflects upon the part “This is precisely your Chance; even if you fail, it's just fate/fortune; look, there is your Chance. (lyrics translation by rz-jocelyn)”.  While singing enthusiastically, he tells himself (those words in the lyrics) and he enjoys himself.

Nice story on how SMAP live helped deepen the bond between a homeroom teacher & a student

A 16-year old girl said that she attended the first day of SMAP concert in Tokyo.  She went on praising the concert and then said that on the concert day, while she's cleaning up the room, her friends kinda expressed their jealousy over the fact that she could attend the concert.  Then her homeroom teacher said "I'll go tomorrow".  Though the fact that the girl is a big fan of Captain is known by teacher, nobody knew before that homeroom teacher is also a fan of SMAP!  Then she said on Friday, this teacher had class & also a meeting until the last minute, so she couldn't go buying the concert goods.  So, the girl kinda secretly left her penlight together with a letter on the teacher's desk.  Then, on Monday, the teacher returned the penlight to her, thanked her and also gave "Captain's Mr.S clear file" to her as a present!!  So, she felt thankful for SMAP concert that helped her become closer to her homeroom teacher.

The second climax, "One day, I will definitely leap over that wall, yes, higher than even the skies", every time I sing that part, it gets to me.  That said, it's not like there's a wall within me now.  But, I think, it's something that will definitely come about sometime in the future.  "Can I do this?", thinking this [question] becomes a wall.  However, if a wall like that ever comes up, "I will definitely leap over it!", that thought I will keep within me now.  When the time comes to face it [the wall], rather than think, "What should I do?", when faced with the wall that will definitely, one day, loom over me, right now, when I have the luxury, when it's still interesting, "It's something I've said before", when that time comes, if I still think, "Wah, what should I do?", it'll be heavy [to bear].  That's why, to say that I can leap over it now, for me, this lyrics gives me incredible courage.

As the representative of everyone who has received "One Chance!", let me just say this now, I would like to say "thank you" to Moriyama Naotarou.  Thank you so much! I've received incredible courage from the mails that everyone has sent today.  This is really nice!  But, because this is What's, I think that this won't continue~ (LOL).  Mails that are quite tough/strict await me, I think (LOL).

ETA:

One Chance! was also trending in Japan last Friday when it was played on WUS.  The song seems to be received pretty well by the public outside of SMAP fandom based on some random tweets I read so far since when the album was released and also the fact that it was played on a regular radio show, too. :DDD
