Recording Day 5: I Know my Baby Works Hard...

Aug 11, 2005 02:12

Holy Mother.

Today was a Becky-less day, but before I begin I'm just going to say that tomorrow is the mother of all recording days. Day 6 is where it happens or...doesn't happen. Because Becky's doing the rest of the drums tomorrow, and if we don't finish the other 5(!!), I suppose either they won't have drums or they won't be on the cd...which leaves 4 songs...awesome. But I'm confident, because we planned ahead this time and I made her a cd of the new songs to prepare for tomorrow.

So Me and Bri got 2 more tracks recorded for Becky ('Free' and 'Alive'...all tentative, of course) and I'm not so sure about Alive anymore...I think I'd rather wait until I have more time (next project? hahaha) This project sort of blew up...but the whole time I've pretty much had it under control...which is weird...my motivation is constant...what bugs me is that I've done all I can for the night, finished everything possible in preparationf for tomorrow's drum fest. I have faith, but I wish I hadn't thrown it on Becky so suddenly, you know? I could've started small, with just me and a guitar...but I actually prefer it this way...it just makes me wish I had decided a little earlier to do it like this.

But you know what? We're here, and this thing is getting finished. So frigging bring on another 6 hour recording day; we can take it. I just need to shave.

So where was I? Oh right. So we got those two tracks done, with touch-ups (I can't imagine how many instrument tracks go into one guitar part if I use around 3 overdubs on every song...or maybe that doesn't usually happen...) and then we (me and Brian...Becky was working) went to Coyle's and enjoyed some sticky fingers sundaes...yummm...and back to recording. We touched up 'Everything I Do' and then I tried having Brian record the bass part for it...but I forgot that he doesn't...know it...so for time and simplicity's sake, I recorded the track, which took a solid 40 minutes since I haven't played bass for so long and I hadn't actually finished the bass part.

But in the end, I have 3 songs worth of music DONE and ready to be mixed with vocals. And that my friends, is enough to make this sXe kid happy.

Tune in tomorrow for: The Drum Nexus + The Solo Debacle.

Nightly Pictures:

I've noted that my appearance has gotten scruffier/creepier by the day and I promise I will shave in the name of all that is good (and Liz)
and not scruffy. But for now, the creepfest:

Me and the Workstation

If anybody is wondering, yes that is a large picture of me on the wall behind me...sigh...

What Brian's mom was going to pay him a lot of money to get rid of. Bless you Brian; Bless you.

Why does everything look so staged when nothing is? (Note: Headphones on = Recording)

Brian and my awesomely messy desk

Brian could start a myspace/facebook picture club with the sheer quanitity of photos he took of us tonight.
I also have a 10 second sample of the first song on the cd (Everything I Do) so if you want to hear it let me know
and I'll get it to you. That is all...oh, and NO MORE WORK.

5 days!

Addendum: I know this is a little late, but I was reminded that I saw a lovely performance of Footloose on Friday evening (the best local production I've seen out of 5) starring the most talented girl I know, and fittingly, she was wonderful. That is all :)
