Today was a good day in general...well...other than the fact that it's pretty late and I have work in the morning.
and by pretty late I mean way too late of course haha...
Anyway, work is only bearable because of my co-workers and because I get copious amounts of writing done...
I've learned to write songs without guitar...in my head...it works roughly half the time, but two songs
I wrote completely without an instrument will be on the demo...speaking of which, I've got a final tracklisting,
and am finishing writing the final song (in terms of track listing and also of this set) I've already started on a new set
of songs to keep me entertained while I record and get bored of these haha...I recorded a rough demo
of the second song on the demo, called 'Simple', and taht's available at:
http://lookwest.org/billy/songs/In%20Motion/Demos/7-17-05/Simple.mp3 If you're interested. I also added a page for the random covers that Dan and I throw together...tonight it was the Sesame Street
Theme song complete with a Bossa Nova style solo and a Gospel breakdown...we'll be playing for our second (and last) time at Finlay's this coming Monday at around 9:30, where I hopefully will be playing some of my new songs live for the first time as well.
The other covers up are 'Video Killed the Radio Star' and "Such Great Heights"...I need to get Back in the Ussr up there too as soon
as I find it, and maybe the video of 'Pleasant Valley Sunday'
That site is
http://lookwest.org/billy/songs/Covers/ It seems that all I can think about lately is music, and frankly, I can't say I ever get bored of it...I've managed to go like a billion
shows this summer, play once or twice, jam around, write a motherload of songs, and record a home demo without ever thinking twice about it
or disliking it. Speaking of shows, I'm going to see the John Mayer Trio in Boston courtesy of Kristyn (and her friend Jen) which is absolutely AWESOME and I can't wait :) Dan and I were talking tonight about how we're glad he's finally becoming less of an underrated guitar player because pretty frankly he blows everyone else of our generation out of the water. I'm glad he isn't just being associated with radio-friendly (albeit wonderfully written and awesome) pop songs. So that will be a highlight of the first semester.
On my side of the show spectrum, I'm trying to book other colleges in the area just to get out and play during the year...So far I'm contacting Providence, Holy Cross, Albany, Clark, and a few other local ones in search of a place to play. Some of those would be dependent on whether or not I have a car at school, but I suppose it would be worth the bus fare to play in another city. All I know is I'm going to be sending out a bunch of my demos to different schools and hoping for the best.
Becky bought out Best Buy today...she walked out with (legally, after purchase) the new Dane Cook cd (awesome), the new Jason Mraz cd, a cell phone charger, and the first season of 3rd Rock from the Sun (YES) and I came home with a copy of Slaughter-House-Five (the movie) because I've heard it's actually a book-based movie worth watching.
and I have 15 pages left in 'Down and Out...' so I'm going to go finish that and go get my 4 and a half hours of sleep.
