So, the other night I made chicken makhani, and it was a mild disaster. I sadly lost the recipe I had damn near perfected (and by perfected, I mean tasted ALMOST like the chicken makhani at India Cafe in Bloomington, MN) so I had to hunt out another. And another I did find, but he kept using the word tomato paste. I do not think he knew what that word meant. Said recipe called for two cups of tomato paste (I was doubling the recipe since it only called for half a pound of chicken.) Uhm. I hestitated and put one can in. And it was still way way way too much.I think the word he was looking for was PUREE.... better luck next time. Entirely edible, but not chicken makhani.....
ANYWAY, last night's experiment went WAY better. Omg.
Oh yeah. Homemade kebabs and tabbouleh. The falafel is totally microwaved freezer falafel but it was all still win.
I used
this recipe for the tabbouleh, though I had slightly less mint than he called for, and added a little more bulgur wheat. I used three bunches of parsley, couldn't tell you if it's 14 oz or not. Decided the juice of one lemon is 1/4 cup.
The kebabs were me totally winging it, and it worked fantastic. Marinated the beef in:
Olive oil (probably about 1/2-3/4 cup)
Soy sauce (couple tblspoons)
apple cider vinegar (tblspoon)
lemon juice (couple tblespoons)
onion powder (I dunno how much. Don't be shy.)
Thyme (ditto.)
Pepper (lay that shit on.)
A certain amount of salt was added on accident because I grabbed the wrong shaker and was sprinkling before I realized it wasn't pepper. I scooped out some but imagine some went in. Do what you will with that knowledge.
All together it made about 1 1/2-2 cups marinade I think. I don't really measure when futzing around. But oh my. YUMMY. It turned out pretty amazing. Beef chunks only marinated for a couple hours but ho man.. yummy flavor. I wish they would've sat longer in it just so the meat had been a little more tender since they were cheap cuts. Oops. Though
hsavinien didn't seem to have to gnaw like I did so maybe I just got gnarlier hunks of meat. They leftovers are way tender though (:
Stuck the meat chunks on a stick with green pepper and sweet onions, and grilled those puppies. Went excellently with the falafel and tabbouleh. And the tortilla, since I could not find pita bread or naan. Ah well.
So yeah. YAY.
Also, we have a compost pile now since I cleaned up the junk pile our last neighbors had left in the backyard. So all the plant refuse went there last night. Awesome.
