Title of Work: Girl Anachronism
Characters / Paring: Shouichi/Spanner
Rating: R, borderline NC-17
Warnings: girl on girl kissing, some fondling
Chosen Prompt: femSpanner/femShouichi. Shouichi makes a gynoid and attempts to invent an active, emotional AI in her-- she thinks she failed because of the gynoid's unexpressive nature, but it's not such a hit-or-miss deal.
Summary: Shouichi creates an android that seems to fail at first. Things aren’t always what they seem.

Shouichi glanced over the plans that she had made before looking over at the gynoid on the table. She had been working on her for over a year after the previous one had failed, and she wanted to make sure that it was perfect. The only thing left to install was the AI software that she had modified and perfected over the year. She had tried it on smaller droids that she had created - the Akita that was sleeping in the corner of the room, the small cat that was currently purring in her lap, even the tiny mouse that was currently running in his little wheel. Each had been a success, so she expected nothing less of this gynoid.
“Sixty percent uploaded,” she muttered, her delicate mouth chewing on the end of a pen. As the file showed the upload percentage, she got more jittery, her leg moving in beat to the music in her ears. She wanted…no needed, this to work. She had never been a terribly social creature, her limits being a boy who failed at nearly everything he did and a woman who had a god complex. She needed someone she could relate to, and this gynoid was her last hope. She was so focused on her computer that she missed the small twitch in one of the artificial hands and the fluttering behind the droid’s eyelids, or the way her mouth opened with a small sigh. Things that, with a normal droid, would never had happened.
All of this happened in a matter of seconds, so when Shouichi turned, she never saw any of it. At ninety-five percent uploaded, she needed to start checking the responses of the droid. She stood, jarring the cat on her lap, and smoothed out her t-shirt absently. Then she grabbed her PDA and walked over to the table that her project laid on. For some reason, she couldn’t help but stare down at the droid she had created and was surprised, for a brief moment, to find her oddly attractive. There was something that was very nearly adorable about the way her close cropped hair feathered around her face, and the small, delicate nose on her face. Shouichi’s hand reached out before she could stop herself and brushed her fingers over her cheek, expecting to be met by warm flesh and blood. Though the skin tact was warm, that’s all it was. It had the artificial feel of plastic, as soft and smooth it may have been.
As her fingers lingered on the gynoid’s cheek, the artificial woman’s eyes popped open, staring right at Shouichi. With a startled scream, she jumped back, tripping over the cat that had been staring at her master. She hissed as Shouichi rubbed her sore rear. Why am I so surprised? she thought as she stood, This is what I wanted to happen. As the gynoid sat up without any prompting, Shouichi’s lips twitched and she very nearly smiled. It looked like, from the initial start-up, that the project was a success, that Shouichi finally had someone that could relate to her. She stood, brushing off her behind as she walked over to the table and the young woman that was now looking around. She opened up her PDA and watched the young woman as she seemed to explore the space that she was in.
“I’m going to ask you a few questions and all you need to do is answer them,” she instructed. She wasn’t surprised when she didn’t receive a response from her companion and, for once, didn’t feel the stress that caused her stomach to churn uncomfortably. “Alright. What’s your name?”
“Spanner,” the gynoid said, her tone flat. Though Shouichi quirked an eyebrow at the near lack of response, she didn’t think anything of it. There were only so many ways to answer what’s your name. She wrote down the name, even though she knew it.
“And what are you?”
“An android.” This time, the simple answer and monotone response gave her a sinking feeling. Her stomach began to churn uncomfortably. This wasn’t boding well.
“Spanner, what’s your purpose?”
“To serve as your companion.” And when there was no elaboration, Shouichi knew it was confirmed. The AI that she had thought was perfected had failed. She was going to have to start from scratch.

It was a week later and she had yet to scrap the “project,” as she had come to call Spanner in the past week. The droid, in her own way, was almost creepy. She would watch Shouichi at the oddest of times, her eyes locked onto Shouichi’s frame flatly, her facial features expressionless. Even when a normal person would blush or show some embarrassment, Spanner showed nothing. It was unnerving, to say the least.
There hadn’t even been anything, no shout or exclamation of surprise, when Shouichi suffered from an electrical burn while working on another droid (a bird this time - she didn’t think that she would be creating another human again). Spanner had just grabbed a first aid kit and taken care of the burn, her hands efficient and quick. Shouichi had watched her hands move and, she wasn’t sure why, she began to think of what else those hands may be capable of. When she shook her head, trying to clear those odd thoughts out, Spanner made no notice and Shouichi was glad. Though her creation was oddly curious about certain things (Japanese culture, large robots, mechanics), anything having to do with the human constitution held no interest to her.
That night though, the android surprised her in a way that she never would have imagined. And made her reevaluate her original opinion about her AI system.

Shouichi was bent over the small bird droid that she was working on, connecting some wires. Her headphones were on, the music keeping her focused on her work. She was so focused in fact, she paid no attention to her surroundings and didn’t notice Spanner come up behind her. She started when her headphones were pulled off gently and hands were placed on her shoulders.
“Shouichi,” a voice, the voice of her android, said next to her ear. She shivered a little as those artificial lips brushed against the lobe and her head tilted a little in supplication. “It’s time to shower and get ready for bed. You have a meeting with Byakuran in the morning, and she’ll be displeased if you’re not rested.” If Shouichi wasn’t so sure that the AI had failed, she would have sworn that she heard concern in Spanner’s voice. But that was impossible.
“Alright. I guess I’ll have to work on this tomorrow,” she replied and stood. She placed a hand on her stomach and groaned a little. “Thinking about meetings with Byakuran always makes my stomach hurt. She’s always so…touchy-feely. And creepy.” Her eyes widened when Spanner’s hand joined hers and began to rub a little. Instead of having the effect of easing the pain there, her stomach tightened and fluttered.
“I’ll get your medication while you shower. You’ll be unable to sleep if your ulcers act up.”
“Ah. Alright. I’m just going to…yeah.” Shouichi moved away from the droid and hurried away to the shower, trying to hide her blush. She didn’t see the slightly hurt look that crossed over the android’s features, nor did she see the considering look that she gave her. She was just concerned with getting away from her.
When she got to the bathroom, she shed her clothes and turned on the shower. She didn’t understand any of this. Spanner was beginning to make her…nervous. In a way that she had never felt before. She was just an android without any feelings. She didn’t understand why…
She shook her head of these thoughts and climbed into the shower. She would have to shut down Spanner in the morning. There was no point in getting attached when she didn’t function properly. She couldn’t keep wasting her time on a project that had no future. She ignored the twinge in her heart at the decision and began to wash up to distract herself. She didn’t hear the door open, and she didn’t hear Spanner’s light footfalls into the room. She didn’t see the way the she stared at the silhouette through the curtain nor did she see the way her eyes flashed.
After a moment, Shouichi shut off the water and opened the curtain. And promptly screamed when she saw the android standing in the bathroom, staring at her. She slipped in the tub, very nearly falling back. In fact, she would have fallen if not for the quick reflexes of her android. It was so fast. One moment, she was tumbling back, certain she would crack her head on the tile, the next, she was pulled against the android. Her hands were pressed against the ample chest that she had given her (she still didn’t know why she had done that, except for the fact that her own chest was lacking in size), her nude body pressed against her droid’s clothed one. She stayed like that for a moment, wide eyed and panting. Then she was trying to scramble away.
“Thank you for all that help, but now…” she started, but was cut off when Spanner pulled her closer.
“You still need to take your medication.” Her voice was low and soft, and there was, to Shouichi’s ears, a tinge of concern in it. She shivered a little and nodded a little.
“Alright. Where is it?”
“Here.” Spanner held out her hand and showed her the two small pills there. Shouichi took the pills and grimaced as she realized that, with Spanner holding her as close as she was, she would have to swallow them dry. With a sigh, she popped them into her mouth. She didn’t expect that immediately after a mouth would cover hers and a tongue to chase after the pills. She made a sound and swallowed the pills in defense. Her hands pushed a little at Spanner, but she was relentless, her tongue gliding over Shouichi’s. After another moment of struggling, Shouichi’s hands curled into her droid’s jumpsuit, making a small sound into the kiss.
She had just began to ease into the kiss when she felt a hand caress her side. Her eyes, which had fluttered closed during the kiss, popped open, wide and surprised. She pulled back from the kiss only to feel that mouth attach to her neck and suck lightly on the skin.
“Wh-what are you, ah, doing?” Spanner’s hand cupped her breast, a thumb brushing over her nipple lightly. Shouichi tensed, gasping softly.
“Touching you.” The thumb continued to move over her nipple, sending twinges of arousal to her stomach.
“I can s-see that. But why?”
“Because I want to.” It was murmured against her skin and she almost didn’t hear it. When she realized what she had said, her eyes widened and she pushed Spanner back. She was panting, trying to calm her furiously beating heart.
“What? You want to?” At Spanner’s small nod, Shouichi pushed past her, grabbing a robe. “We have to record this. You…You’re doing something of your free will. That’s…” She trailed off when Spanner grabbed her and pulled her to her.
“Shouichi.” It was a single muttered phrase, but Shouichi got the message. Her hands went up to thread through the soft strands of hair on Spanner’s head.
“Morning is soon enough.” There was no talking for the rest of the night and Shouichi learned to never judge her projects again.
