Summary: Milano couldn't help but feel sorry for yelling at Alita. Perhaps she'd gone too far.
Notes: Finished this series tonight and couldn't resist writing something. There's more than just subtext here ;) As within the series, Alita is referred to as Milano, and Falis as Alita, their given forms after that wonderful body switch. Also, I need a tag created for this fandom :)
“I wish you’d just act more like a princess should!”
Milano sighed, remembering her outburst. It was difficult trying to teach Falis how to act as royalty should when the woman was clearly not anything close to royalty. There were many times when Milano feared the people would finally have enough. However, as long as Falis protected the country as Alita, they did not complain nor fuss.
That didn’t mean that Milano didn’t wish that for once Alita would put forth some kind of effort. Getting her to wear the corset had merely been the beginning. It was hard to explain why the princess didn’t take better care of the dresses she wore, easily staining, tearing, or destroying them within a day. The way she addressed nobility left much to be desired, as Alita wasn’t concerned with remembering names or the manners that should be used with each particular noble. Meals…forget it. Alita attacked the meal any way she could, proper silverware be damned.
Neither Milano nor Jodo tired of reprimanding the princess, trying to force a role onto her for which she was not suited. Had the princess been a prince, she would have not had as much trouble. Still… Milano had to wonder if she should always be so critical of Alita, even when they were alone. She knew that the stress and effort she had from working with Alita had finally peaked. She had been just as surprised by her outburst as Alita had been.
As she prepared for bed, she began working through an apology in her mind. First thing tomorrow, she would apologize for her behavior. She considered simply doing it tonight, but it was late, and to wake the princess was to awaken the sleeping bear within. After all, even princesses need their sleep.
