“Grrrmphft!”
It was the only reply she’d gotten so far from the mess of blankets on the bed. Forget any kind of reply resembling that of proper speech. Straw blonde hair peeked from the top, messy and sticking out every which way. She gently shook the pile again, hoping to get some kind of decent response. She was rewarded with a hand wildly swatting at her.
“Aaeru, it’s well past time for you to be up. You’ve been sleeping all morning,” stated Neviril gently as she continued to shake the girl.
No answer. It wasn’t often that Aaeru slept so long. Usually she was up shortly after the sun had finished rising. Then again, it wasn’t often that they had a soft bed with comfortable sheets. Maybe she should-
An arm suddenly pulled her down, and she found herself facing a sleepy Aaeru as arms snaked around her waist. Surprised, she spoke. “Aaeru, what are you doing?”
“Holding you,” she replied matter o’ factly. She grinned.
“You should be getting up and dressed. I thought you wanted to fly over the area and study it more.”
“Maybe.” The sing song voice she was using didn’t sound so convincing.
“That’s not what you said last night,” answered Neviril skeptically.
Aaeru only tightened her grip around Neviril. She rested her head against Neviril’s chest. Once again, she closed her eyes. Neviril knew when she was beaten. She wrapped her arms around Aaeru, resting her head atop the younger girl’s.
Aaeru couldn’t help but grin against Neviril’s chest. It was hard pretending to sleep, but she’d accomplished her goal in the end. She didn’t think Neviril would buy her act, but it had worked out in the end. All it had taken was a bit of an excuse to get what she wanted.
