Finishing Moves

If you've played Mortal Kombat you know what I'm talking about.

Finishing Moves.

Finishing Move: adv - 1) to bring about utter finality with panache and flair. 2) you are the man, man.

It's probably because this lovemaking session was a statistical outlier on the high end of the bell curve that is my shag-a-delic experience, in terms of both quantity and quality, that I had so much time to ponder during. And, I probably owe the blissful quality of these reminiscences entirely to that episode as well, so -- credit where credit is due. Or maybe I was just channeling the 'Iron Dragon's Daughter' (I desperately hope SOMEONE knows what I'm talking about here!)

But anyway, last Saturday, I reached fruition on some ideas that've been knocking around in my head like a loose muffler for a month or so.

See, Cake (the band) says 'friend' is a 4 letter word. But I was walking about my place of employ thinking it's more like a hulk of slag behind a car-repair-shop. It's always there when you need it.

Which is why, with my hands literally full of boobs and what I'm sure is a roughly permanent idiots grin etched on my face that I realized something.

I've got lots of friends--that I don't see that often. I fall in love and drift out, not knowing what to do next. It's like, when you're playing Mortal Kombat and you don't know the right combination of buttons to rip your buddies head off so that his spine is just dangling there. Sure, YOU COULD just tap the weak attack button and tip him over the edge between game-on and game-over, but where's the fun? What's the POINT? I mean, you gotta finish strong, right?

Now, keep in mind, that I'm not totally sold on this yet--but I'm a strong starter. Phenominal really, if you don't mind me saying so, and that's what I'm going to do. Rather than worrying about how I can hold onto what I have, I'm going to see what happens when I start fresh. A lot. Constantly. I'm going to give Sub-Zero and his ice-breath/kick/enemy shatters routine a rest and see where the starting line is again.

And dammit! Now I've got that Coldplay song in my head. You too?

Oh - and the most important part.

The preoccupation with what should be is estimable only when the respect for what is has been exhausted.
